So... Why Did I Start My Own Business?
This is it. I took that plunge off that Entrepreneur's Cliff. All of us understand, to certain extents, the fear and insecurity that comes with venturing out on your own. Trust me, I've been going through it. My mother hit me when I shared with her my intentions, the spectacle made even more depressing by the doubtful whispers of the relatives. Granted, I am young and don't have a substantial safety net in the bank.
Why then did I make the leap?
I Believe in Hard Work and Dedication.
You're still so young Brandon... why are you taking such a risk?'
My answer? I'm dedicated to starting my legacy young so that my children can be apart of the experience. I want to set myself up to be able to bring the type of value I envision to their upbringing. I'm motivated to work hard to take care of my family and our future.
Don't get it misconstrued, this decision to start off on my own is, by no measure, out of arrogance.I know that I have A LOT to learn. My perspective is this - entrepreneurship and starting your own business in itself is a class all on its own. I'm just investing a secure job and steady income in order to experience and learn entirely different lessons.
That being said, I do have confidence that I will succeed. Why? It's simple. I'm confident that hard work and dedication will always pay off. I've worked hard over the past decade to position myself for this. I have studied sales like a science, in several industries since I was 15. I've been a sponge around successful people around me. I am aware of the rapidly evolving employment climate- I am part of that evolution and blessed to be able to experience first-hand, why there is a need to address this.
So, I've prepared myself relatively well... But the crux of it lies in the fact that I am committing to 9am - 9am work days, 6 days a week. If there's one thing I can confidently stand by is the fact that regardless of talent, experience or money, the hardest worker will succeed, sooner or later.
I Believe in Doing the Right Things
Fortunately, I've been able to observe and learn about the less-than-ethical 'shortcuts' a lot of businesses are taking to succeed. I for one believe in what I'm doing simply because I'm not in it for the money. Talent Creed is a movement.
I'm in this not to Take Part, I'm in it to Take Over
Bold statement to make - I know. However, it is my commitment to doing the what's right that truly gives me this confidence. My partners and I have one thing in common. We truly want to make a difference.

I'm Aware of The Rapidly Evolving Employment Climate
We're a group of young professionals who have been blessed (and I truly believe this to be a blessing) to be in positions where we've put in 110% wanting to make a difference, but were pushed out. Being lied to, pushed around by corporate games, unprofessionally screamed at - even when offering help, the list just goes on and on. This is not a complaint, it is probably because we are 'millennials' of similiar 'non-conforming mindsets' that we were able to experience all this.
Don't get it twisted. Despite all the noise one thing always remained consistent - our performance. This isn't a petty lash-out at the organisations that have 'mistreated' us. When you're doing the right things, there will never be a shortage of alternative opportunities.
Talent Creed was birthed out of the fact that we are aware of the different mindsets different generations have. I honestly don't know if corporate executives are starting to realize this, but this has become a huge problem.
Especially in Asian cultures, there has not been much emphasis on how to motivate and retain talent. Fact is, 10-20 years ago, managers didn't need to; In those times, finding an alternative work space wasn't as easy. Employees had to swallow abuse because they had no choice. This is perhaps where a degree of complacency manifested and for a significant number of managers, this complacency maintains today.
What is overlooked is the rapidly changing employment climate. It is not the fault of anyone particularly. With fast-paced globalization and mind-blowing technological advancements, different generations, especially those who haven't yet adapted, have been segregated into an almost completely different species-es.
This works both ways, many companies are keeping up, if not are leading the change in the employment landscape; It is also our duty to help more 'traditional' talent understand what it means to integrate themselves into brand new working climates.
This mission is embodied in our Talent Creed logo:
The top arc on TalentCreed's logo, represent the higher-ups who (have usually) grown up in different times and modeled themselves with what worked then, the bottom arc represents the new generation who have recently entered the work force, trying to find their place. Generally, there are two types of people - people who have adapted and people have not. These two classes have perceptibly morphed into different pieces of the corporate puzzle, it is our mission at TalentCreed to bridge that gap, to foster and create understanding between transitioning generations within the hiring process - To be advisers to your leaders and a voice for the people.
End Note -
So these are the three reasons that have pushed me to start a movement of my own. Does it resonate with anyone else at all? Let me know in the comments.
Honestly, I've not been particularly confident of the articles I've been putting out recently, there's some kind of over-arching shroud of ... doubt? confusion? in my words? I don't know... would really appreciate some advice if anyone is able to pin-point what I lack. I just wanted to start putting out content consistently again... maybe I'm just rusty? How do you think i could've better communicated my vision?
Big shout outs to my partners I had previously worked with! They understand the vision and are showing a lot of support! I've never let you guys down and I don't plan on ever starting! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show you what it means to work with partners who TRULY CARE.
Lastly, if your business requires any staffing help and after browsing through this piece, feel like you believe and would be open to taking this journey with TalentCreed, feel free to send me a private message! Similarly, if you feel like you're a talent who loves what you stand for but is unhappy with where you're at, do send me your profile through a LinkedIn message.
Cheers,
Brandon Toh

7 年I have wonderful experience working with you in my previous organization. Thank you for all your great guidance and encouragement. I am so delightful on your success. Great Personality! Keep Rocking!
Assistant Vice President, Sales
7 年Nice meeting you and must say that I am very impressed at your enthusiasm and focus of getting things right in this increasingly competitive space of recruitment. Too often have I met HHs who presents more interest in meeting their quota above everything else and this spawns some critical concerns of talent mismatch. Your approach of deep diving & really putting that human touch into perspective, would position you differently from those conventional HHs. All the best to you you my friend!
Amen!
7 年Well articulated mate, i know you for being very humble and always understand the need of the candidate. I have met many recruiters who sound sales, but your approach has the human touch. With that, i believe you can go far, trust me on that ! Wish you the very best and I'm excited to see your growth ! Cheers buddy!
