Talent professionals are often pressed for time, so here are 10 tips to help them manage their time more efficiently. These tips include prioritising tasks with the Most Important Tasks methodology, Eisenhower Matrix, ABC Method, and Pareto Principle; conducting a time audit; setting time limits; batching similar tasks; beginning the day with the most daunting task; optimising workplace communications; optimising meetings; doing quick and easy tasks immediately; knowing when to say "no"; and streamlining and automating tasks.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Pinterest implemented a flexible work policy, PinFlex, one year ago, which encourages employees to work remotely from wherever they want. This has led to a more distributed workforce, effective collaboration, and employees feeling empowered. There have been some growing pains with this model, such as creating the right frequency for virtual meetings and onboarding new employees. The policy is highly rated by employees and has led to improved recruiting efforts with access to a wider pool of workers. There have been benefits to mental health and wellbeing, such as autonomy, flexibility and boundaries between work and non-work time.
DEI
Implicit biases and competing priorities can lead to decisions in the workplace that are not equitable. To counter this, DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) should be taken into consideration when making important decisions, such as hiring and promotions. Three effective strategies to make DEI more prominent are: collective hiring decisions, encouraging diversity in the promotion process, and viewing a short diversity training video before making people-related decisions.
Companies can benefit from embracing neurodiversity by leveraging different ways of thinking and alternative approaches to problem-solving. It is essential for managers and leaders to build awareness of neurodiversity in order to meet the needs of neurodiverse team members. Moreover, effective communication can be fostered by encouraging open dialogue, active listening, and understanding of different communication styles.
According to a global study by Ernst & Young LLP, Gen Z workers want their employer to prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. However, in the US, a Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action has caused companies to question their initiatives, and job cuts in the tech industry have disproportionately affected DEI departments. The survey highlighted inequities in the workplace such as unequal pay and assignments. Additionally, 45% of respondents said policies offering autonomy over working hours and location were the top reason for instilling DEI in their teams. Despite the challenges, DEI remains an important workplace expectation and a competitive advantage.
HR INSIGHTS
Generative AI will have a transformational role in Human Resources, helping to solve complex challenges in the field, such as hiring, onboarding, training, leadership development, and more. Real-world use cases for AI in HR include talent intelligence for recruiting and pay equity, employee experience apps for onboarding and administration, employee training and compliance apps, employee development and growth apps, performance management and operational improvement, and analyzing and improving employee retention, well-being, and engagement. When implementing AI in HR, it is essential to start small, involve the IT team, and understand that AI systems require ongoing care and feeding.
The TUC launched an AI task force to introduce legal protections for employers and workers in the UK. The task force will publish a draft AI and employment bill in early 2024.The TUC warns that without regulation, AI could lead to discrimination and exploitation in the workplace.
A study from North Carolina State University found that employers may view job applicants differently if they post about mental health challenges on their LinkedIn pages. The study found that hiring professionals viewed applicants with such posts as being less emotionally stable and less conscientious, although listening to the interview lessened questions about emotional stability. As mental health conversations become more commonplace, there is a need for HR professionals to determine reasonable accommodations and help colleagues leave stereotypes at the door, as well as provide manager training around mental health.

TALENT MANAGEMENT
The job market is experiencing a shift from job hopping to longer job tenures, known as the 'Big Stay.' LinkedIn data shows a decline in job turnover rates, creating an opportunity for companies to focus on internal mobility. To make the most of this trend, companies need to identify and address the barriers to internal mobility, involve C-suite leaders as advocates, encourage managers to help employees spot opportunities, and invest in programs that support internal career exploration. Promoting internal mobility not only benefits employee careers but also builds resilient teams with a broader range of skills and higher employee retention rates.
Employers need to ensure their employees are not left behind in terms of AI training and development
Recent research conducted by Randstad has shown that only 13% of employees have been offered AI training in the past twelve months, despite one in three already using AI in their roles. Moreover, 52% of those surveyed believe that AI will improve their career and promotion prospects. In addition, it has been found that younger staff are more likely to leave a job if learning and development opportunities are not provided.
It is reported that only 3 out of 10 employees feel encouraged to grow in the workplace. To address this issue, career coaching can be an effective solution that provides personalised guidance for professional growth and development. Advantages of this approach include more attractive job candidates, higher employee engagement, closing of skill gaps, increased staff retention, and better business performance.
RECRUITING & RETENTION
Chipotle has launched a campaign to recruit new employees called "Behind the Foil". The effort includes documentary-style TV ads, featuring five current Chipotle employees talking about what it's like to work for the chain, and social media content targeting Gen Z. The average age of Chipotle's employees is 24 and the company is aiming to create 7,000 jobs in 2021. The social media content will include behind-the-scenes information about what it's like to work for the chain, as well as food tips. The campaign is backed by research showing that 40% of Gen Z prefer search on social media instead of traditional search engines.
AI has many advantages for HR teams, including helping them save time, streamlining processes, and potentially reducing costs. AI tools can significantly reduce the time spent on sourcing and recruiting potential candidates, enabling hiring managers to focus on other responsibilities. Through automation, AI technology can take care of time-consuming tasks like scheduling interviews and screening resumes, increasing workflow efficiency and creating a positive candidate experience. AI also assists in decreasing time to hire, minimising human bias in the hiring process, scaling communication with candidates, and effectively promoting open positions.
TALENT TRENDS
Remote workers are less likely than their non-remote counterparts to take vacation time, according to Gusto's analysis. Remote workers were found to take 5.5% less vacation time in the past year, and were also 22% less likely to take any vacation time at all. This could be due to an unwillingness to take time off due to the optics of remote work, or feeling that they don't have to take time off due to the flexible nature of their job. Companies with a supportive, flexible culture have more success with remote work programs, and it is important to allow workers to take time off to prevent burnout.
