The Tale of Two Lumberjacks: How Rest and Sharpening Your Skills Can Lead to Greater Success

In a remote corner of a dense forest, two robust lumberjacks resided, each with their unique approach to life.

They lived in small cabins - not too far apart - and loved to harvest oaks and pines from the wild forest more than anything else.

At the crack of dawn, the first lumberjack, driven by his passion, would venture into the woods, axe in hand, ready to conquer the day. His focus was unwavering, leaving no room for distractions.

The second lumberjack used to wake up at 7:00 AM and have a big breakfast. He relished in the simple pleasure of bread and honey, savouring each bite while the symphony of nature played around him, bringing him a sense of tranquillity.

The first lumberjack toiled tirelessly all day. He reveled in the sound of his axe against the wood, the scent of the pine trees, sweat trickling down his brow, and the blood coursing through his hands at the end of the day when he could finally rest. He always felled 10 trees daily, a testament to his unwavering commitment and strength.

The second lumberjack worked very hard as well, stopping once in a while to take a break. He'd sit down and listen to the birds, cut some flowers, rest his arms, and eat lunch. Then, he would continue to chop more wood. He went home early. His mark was 15 trees daily, making him feel proud and powerful.

One night, after a long day of work, the first lumberjack passed by the house of the second lumberjack. He was astonished and devastated to count 15 threes in his friend's front yard.

Confused and in despair, he called out his friend and asked him, "How can this be? I know you take a rest every hour, and I work continuously throughout the day. There's no possible way you can chop off more wood. Tell me your secret."

The second lumberjack turned to him and said, "You are right, old friend. I take a break every hour to rest, eat, and sharpen my axe."

When did you last take a break and put space between yourself and your projects, work, friends, family, or thoughts?

Sometimes, all we need is time to stop thinking about what's important and figure out what needs to be done.

Love this story! It's such a great reminder that the "hustle" culture isn't actually helping!
