A Tale of Two Investments

A Tale of Two Investments

It was a breezy December evening in Abuja when Tunde and Emeka met up after years apart. Tunde, who now lived in Canada, had flown in for the Christmas holidays, eager to relax and catch up with his old friend. However, his mood was anything but festive.

Earlier that day

Tunde was seething on an empty plot with nothing but overgrown weeds and half-dug foundations.

When he confronted his developers, they fidgeted under his gaze. “Can you at least compensate me with a unit that has reached the first floor?” he demanded.

They exchanged nervous glances. “We don’t have any property at that level anywhere,” one of them finally admitted.

"Emeka, I'm exhausted, man. Frustrated beyond words," Tunde groaned, sinking into the seat opposite his friend at their favorite café. "I went to check on my properties today, and guess what? After five years, they’re still at the excavation stage! Can you believe that? Five years!"

“I don’t understand why developers do this,” he vented over drinks. “They make promises they can’t keep. Every year, it’s the same story—‘We’re waiting for approvals,’ ‘Construction will start soon.’ Meanwhile, my money is tied up, and I have nothing to show for it.”

Emeka nodded. “It’s frustrating, bro. Some of these developers don’t plan properly. They sell dreams, take people’s money, and then struggle to deliver.”

“Exactly!” Tunde said, shaking his head. “And they never tell you the truth upfront. They’ll claim a project will be ready in two years, but it’s still at foundation level five years later.”

Emeka raised an eyebrow. "The developers told you they’d have them completed in a few months, didn’t they?"

"Yes! And after five years no progress, no compensation, no alternatives—nothing! I feel like I’ve thrown my money into a black hole."

Emeka shook his head sympathetically. "I know how you feel, bro. It happens way too often. But you know what, I just might have something for you. Have you heard about a project where the developers let you invest as they hit construction milestones?"

Tunde’s eyes widened. "Wait—what? You mean I only put in my money when I see real progress?"

"Exactly," Emeka said with a smile. "These developers have a structured Milestone Plan. You invest at each construction phase—foundation, first floor, roofing, finishing—so you always know your money is going into something tangible."

"That’s incredible! Where is this happening?"

"Right here in Abuja," Emeka replied. "Terraces, semi-detached, and detached duplexes—all in a fast-developing community."

Tunde jumped to his feet. "We need to see this place right now! Take me there, bro!"
