The Tale of Sam and the Power of Questions

There was a man named Sam in a valley that echoed with the bleats of sheep and the chats of shepherds. He wasn't just any shepherd; he was a shepherd extraordinaire. His sheep seemed to dance around him, a testament to his abilities. Noticing his prowess, the Shepherd's Guild approached Sam, "Share your wisdom so we might also dance with our flocks," they pleaded.

Seeing an opportunity to help, Sam agreed. But he quickly realized that teaching people was different from leading sheep. The shepherds were hesitant, skeptical, and stubborn. They didn't easily sway to his teachings like his sheep did.

Desperate and humbled, Sam sought advice from his childhood friend, Lila, known for her knack for solving life's puzzles. Instead of giving him a list of pointers, Lila, with her intuitive wisdom, asked him three potent questions:

  1. "When you began shepherding, were you an instant maestro, or did you trip over a few sheep first?"
  2. "How did you hone your skills to become the shepherd you are today?"
  3. "And do you believe that with the right guidance, you can become a great mentor to these shepherds?"

With each question, Sam delved deeper into introspection. He recalled his initial missteps, his diligent observations, and the feedback from his woolly companions. Sam realized that just as he had learned from his experiences with his flock, he could also learn to lead shepherds. By asking the right questions and guiding them to their own realizations, he could genuinely help them.

Sam's demeanor shifted. He felt lighter, enlightened even. "Lila," he said, "you've shown me the path without telling me where to go."

Lila smiled, "Remember, Sam, sometimes it's not about giving?

Great perspective Bear! I ask questions because I'm comfortable with being clueless, HaHa! My clients have always recognized my genuine effort to try and understand their situation and their needs. Throughout my career asking good questions have led my clients to "take me under their wing" and literally say, "Gary, let me help you... The business problem we're trying to solve is..." With understanding we can "paint-by-numbers" from there. Thx, GAP
