GENEVA: 2 June 2021 – As ConnectAID’s Board Member Adam Rogers points in his book, Taking Action Online, there are now more than 2.3 billion active social media users worldwide—about a third of the planet’s population. This ubiquitous presence makes the internet an unavoidable part of any strategy to build a better world for everyone, everywhere, leaving no one behind. If the third of the world which is presently on social media could engage more in discourse around how to solve the problems we face, we would have a better chance of bringing the world to where we would like it to be.

These are the words of former UNDP Administrator Helen Clark and the aim of the World Summit of Social Media Influencers for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to take place online in 17 days on 19 June.

The conference is being organized by ConnectAID, the International Solidarity Network, which is the world’s first combined charitable giving platform and social impact network dedicated to the Global Goals, and which allows direct support and contributions to international Nonprofit Organizations.

As ConnectAID CEO Gaelle Mogli said, “Only together, can we tackle the challenges of sustainable development. Now is time for the online collective to take action and reinvent solidarity-one click at a time. In fact, the COVID-19 crisis has impacted us all, but nowhere near as much as in developing countries. Many charitable organizations struggle to accomplish their missions at a time when they are needed the most, and donations are unfortunately too scarce to cover the needs. Only a collective approach can incubate change.”

During ConnectAID’s Summit, SDG champions will share their social media secrets on how anyone can bring humanitarian action and sustainable development at the forefront of world conversations. Quoting Rogers’ book, We are indeed each a dot in a constellation of possibilities. On our own, we can discover, refine, and contribute our talents to the greater good. But when we are inspired by others, learn from others, and join forces with others, we become an unstoppable movement” – that is the goal of ConnectAID and the objective of this Summit.
