Taking Time to Celebrate

I had no idea!!!
During the month of September I get a ton of notifications on LinkedIn because it's my birthday and the anniversary of my Coaching business.? This year was special and I didn't realize it until I saw the notifications...it's been 10 years!
For 10 years I have been running my own business full time without working for anyone else. It's so important to take a moment, slow down, and reflect on your accomplishments. I have worked with many clients over the years who were just like me for many years...they would conquer one mountain after another without stopping to appreciate the climb to the summit of their success.
The moment they reached the summit, they wasted no time in eyeing the next mountain in the distance to conquer.? What was the reason for this...it was a common response amongst all of them - fear.? The fear of become complacent and not moving onward.? The second one was being taught early in life to not celebrate your wins...be humble and move on.? Let's address both of these.
?? The Fear of Complacency:
To me there is a difference between complacency and contentment. Complacency to many of my clients is celebrating and just living in that space forever and never pushing themselves forward. This would be their peak and no longer challenging themselves.
Contentment is taking a moment to enjoy the view of your accomplishment. Take a deep breath and feel a sense of pride for what you have done.? Take in how gorgeous the view is from where you started to where you are now.? Most importantly, take a moment to reflect on the climb...reaching the summit of your goals is a massive achievement; however, the glory is in the climb.? Take an inventory of all the lessons you learned.? After all, this wasn't an overnight success.? You worked your ass off to get to where you are.? If you don't take time to reflect on the lessons learned, you will limit your chances of taking them to the next mountain and just repeat the process...it limits the evolution of your success.? Once you have taken a moment to breathe in your view, take pride in what you have accomplished, praise and recognize those who have helped you, and the lessons learned, then you can move onward to the next mountain with a renewed energy.? Not doing this will result in eventual burnout and a sense of never being enough.

?? There is Nothing Humble in Celebrating Your Wins
This is utter garbage in my opinion.? One, if you're working with a team that helped you get to where you are, they will feel a lack of recognition and will eventually feel burned out.? This recognition is a positive long lasting sustainable fuel to motivate and drive towards the next goal.? Second, there is a difference between being humble, arrogant, and small.? Ignoring your wins is sometimes an internal sign of having issues with receiving praise and even praising oneself.? Model this behavior for others, because many individuals I have coached want to praise their teams and want their teams to feel proud; however, they do not model this behavior which can give mixed signals to the people they lead.? Playing small can be a sign of not feeling worthy or good enough.? Being humble is accepting praise by saying "Thank you" and can be followed up by also acknowledging those who helped you get to where you are.? Arrogant is just going around telling people how awesome you are and taking all the credit for how you got there.? Recognize yourself, recognize your team, and recognize the person who is praising your win with a "Thank you".? Do you know how ridiculous it sounds to argue and reject someone's compliment?? They are taking a moment to recognize you, and you have the audacity to argue with their recognition.
The only appropriate response to a compliment it "Thank you".
I am beyond grateful to be where I am today.? I changed my life forever by taking the epic leap from the corporate world to being self employed.? I also recognize that by taking this move I have helped serve so many people in their quest to changing their lives.? I am proud of this and I am very humbled by this.? It has been such an honor to have so many people trust and feel safe with me to share their deepest and most vulnerable thoughts and how to work past them.? I also recognize that it is a big deal to run a successful business consistently over the years...it is something that is challenging to achieve.
Thank you to everyone who helped me get to where I am.? It took a village.? And thank you to everyone who trust me with their vulnerability to conquer their goals in life.
Here's to the next 10 years!
