Taking some time

Do you ever wonder where the days and months go? I have heard from my wise parents and aunts/uncles that as you age it goes even faster. I have found myself waking up to the feeling that time is just flying. Million miler maybe!
I bet many of us are not taking the time to cherish the moment, be present, be mindful. I know I am a culprit of this at times. I also know that I have created my own competition between being efficient and mindful. I am not quite sure where I would be without my iPhone, but I also know that sometimes this very device causes me to be distracted, maybe efficient but not mindful. Screen check anyone?
This last week I was able to do something I love. Scuba dive. There are many reasons why I love Scuba, namely the ability to unplug and just think, reflect and meditate. I often surface arriving at solutions to challenges that I have been facing and ideas for next steps on projects where I was stuck. Or I surface at peace with a decision I have made or a failure I experienced. In the end, I feel healthier and more relaxed when I am done with a dive. I learned that I am not alone as there have been many articles published on the health benefits of scuba diving (stress release!!), for those of you considering this new sport read here for more information: https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/top-10-health-benefits-scuba-diving/.
If scuba diving isn't for you check out this article in the NYT on the benefits of spending time in the forest: Take a Walk in the Woods. Doctor’s Orders. https://nyti.ms/2LcEQeD?smid=nytcore-ios-share. It is neat to see that people are taking the time out to help themselves and others manage the hustle and bustle that can at times put us at a disadvantage.
In the end, the morale to this blog is take time out for you; your body, mind, and soul will thank you for it. You may also come back to work more relaxed and refreshed armed with new ideas and able to take on that next challenge.

6 年I liked your statement - "I have created my own competition between being efficient and mindful" - it is definitely important to take some time off and refresh your energy and I quiet found that is more productive and impactful for personal and professional life.

6 年Love this Jeanne! Such an important reminder! I've never scuba dived.. I find my "perspective" and "calm" comes from running and hiking. (Or napping) ;-)
