Taking the Reins - AI Considerations for School Leaders

Imagine a school where every student is getting the personalized attention they need to succeed. Where teachers are freed up from repetitive administrative tasks so they can focus on teaching, and where parents have real-time data on their child's progress. This is the promise of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

AI is already being used in schools in a variety of ways, from automating grading and attendance to providing personalized learning experiences through differentiation. According to a recent Forbes poll, a majority of teachers believe AI will have a positive effect on teaching and learning, and 60% of educators are already using AI in their classrooms (Hamilton, 2023). How are you supporting these innovative trailblazers? How are you ensuring the proper use of these tools as part of your mission and vision??

In addition to staff training, some other factors leadership needs to consider are:?

  • The cost of AI: AI can be a significant investment in hardware, software, and IT staffing.
  • The availability of data: AI systems need data to learn and improve. School districts need to decide on existing platforms, or gather and organize the data needed to train and use a personalized AI effectively.
  • The potential for bias: AI systems can be biased, requiring ongoing human oversight and feedback.
  • Staff and Community Input: Stakeholder voices must be heard and considered when making AI implementation plans.

Canyon PD supports school districts along their technology integration and AI journey. Our team can provide consulting services to help school districts assess their needs, develop a technology implementation plan, and provide training for teachers on how to use technology and AI effectively in the classroom.?

AI has the potential to transform education. By carefully considering the factors involved, school districts can use AI to reduce teacher workloads, improve student outcomes, and create a more personalized and engaging learning experience for all students.

What are some of the ways you and your staff are using AI to improve education?
