Taking the plunge - A year of cold showers.
About a year ago I started experimenting with cold showers.
My reasons at the time were pretty basic: A few of my heroes were doing them, the environmental benefit from heating less water (not to mention the utility bill saving!) and I was curious about how challenging they were to do.
What I experienced though went far above and beyond. The things that I noticed included not feeling the cold as much after, lower stress levels, being more focused... and if I'm really honest a desire to chat to people ("preach") about it. When you challenge yourself with something early in the day (much like getting up early to work out) you are far more ready and willing to face other challenges during the day.
It turns out that the benefits of cold showers (much like cold plunges) have scientifically proven physical, physiological and mental benefits. Many of which result from the dopamine high - an increase in dopamine of up to 250% for the 4-6 hours afterwards.
To get the benefits you need 1 to 3 minutes of cold water (crack the tap all the way to the coldest setting). This can be a shower on it's own or the last period after a hot / warm shower.
Here's to another year of them.

9 个月I have recently learned to live by this cold shower routine daily. I am beginning to notice it strips the excess body fat away like nothing I've ever seen! Oddly enough I both dread it and equally look forward to it every morning...

10 个月“To get the benefits you need 1 to 3 minutes of cold water” I’d have the stopwatch on and I would have to stop after 1 minute ????!
