Taking the plunge
Margaret J Wilson, M.S.
Equine Assisted Coach & Marketing Strategist for Horse Industry
So, it's the last day of summer, officially or so I am told. For me it's true as the pool will close and be drained tomorrow until next year. I will be wearing black tomorrow. The period of grief is unpredictable. I may end up in the shower longer than usual this week.
This column is devoted to navigating the world of marketing for coaches, small business owners and equine assisted professionals. WHY??Because it matters!
For those who are new to the herd, allow me to introduce myself. Horse owner, horse business owner and all-around horse whisperer…I speak horse. It’s my passion and purpose to provide a voice for those in the horse industry to share their equine services and horse wisdom with the world.
I created Equine Marketing Solutions in the aftermath of Covid. With so much suffering and loss in the world, the horses were reaching out to be of service in the healing process for mankind. I saw the need for sharing the services by equine coaches, facilitators and therapist and I wanted to be a part of the solution. Connecting horses and humans. Empowering humans with the support of horses. Powerful, life changing and rewarding work.
If you are in the horse industry, you get this. If not, you will soon. Stick around.
I have chosen to provide content marketing as a service to my clients. This?technique involves?creating and distributing?valuable,?relevant?and consistent content to attract and acquire a clearly defined audience (ideal clients) with the objective of driving profitable?action (sign up for a service).
I promise to practice what I preach! This is my 2nd shot at a newsletter on LinkedIn. It won’t be my last. My promise is to provide you with insights into the power and efficacy of the equine assisted services and to sprinkle it with some marketing tips to support your marketing efforts as an equine services practitioner. And if you need help with any of it, I am here to support you with content marketing that best suits your needs and goals.
Late Summer Pool Side Musings:
Growing up on the Atlantic coast, I could swim before I could walk. Well, ok, close enough. There wasn’t a wave I couldn’t catch, ride or tame. And the cold water, well, it never bothered me to have blue lips. Then I moved to Texas and the Gulf of Mexico was my playground during college. Blue lips? Not a chance. The water was warmer than a hot shower ever dreamed of being in winter. It was time to head north and find a happy median.
I ended up in Colorado, and swimming holes were usually cement lined. Some were heated to start the summer. Some were heated all year long. Ok by me as long as I didn’t break a sweat while working out. Ideally, I prefer a nice cool environment for my laps.
Truth be told; the best part of the workout was always the first dive into the pool. Loved that feeling of swoosh and blast of water on my face.
Never once did I hesitate. I knew the reward that awaited me. I longed for that rush of adrenalin.
Consider this: Swimming and diving into a pool are kinda like marketing your business.
You either toe dip or dive right in. For me, in the beginning, it was a lot of toe dipping. I’ll bet you did too. Maybe you still are...
For me, I had to check it out, walk around, see how cold it was, hesitate, and do some more research before getting close to the edge of the pool.
I took all the classes, webinars and got real educated as they say. Then I made a few stabs at it: flyers, business cards, newsletters, and then I began writing copy for website content. ?Oh, boy, then a few more toes dipped in.? More toes, some ankle and then in we go!
And I kinda liked it. I could sense there was more to come…and I felt courageous enough to go for it!???????????
Finally, after all the toe dipping, I longed for that rush of the dive. And when I finally took that leap of faith that “I got this”, it was a big splash!

1 年Margaret J Wilson, M.S. - I enjoyed reading your newsletter! I don’t “speak horse” (my sister-in-law does!) but it was still fun to read and the way you described the importance of marketing was excellent! I look forward to reading more newsletters from you - and receiving more encouragement and inspiration!
