Taking Ownership to turn the Game Around

A stunning 94* from 40 balls from Aaron Jones, inclusive of 10 sixes and four fours, helped by a brilliant 65 from Andries Gous led USA to a seven-wicket win in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Canada.

Made to bat first, Canada scored a whopping 194/5 in 20 overs with this T20 World Cup's first 50 from Navneet Dhaliwal followed by Nicolas Kirton.

Canada's batting was very consistent with almsot 9 runs per over through out the inning. There was a 62 runs partnership for 3rd wicket within 37 balls

So far it seems Canada had a very solid start and this would be tough for USA to chase. Even the Win Probability was in favour of Canada.

To add to this, USA lost their 1st wicket for Golden duck followed by 2nd wicket at 42 in 6 overs.

Then comes Aaron Jones - the Player of the Match. Aaon was very clear with his intentions from the first ball and ended up scoring 94* from mere 40 balls with 10 sixes (all of them on the leg side)

Jones and Gous scored 131 runs (of only 58 balls) for the 3rd wicket and took USA inning to victory

Look how from 8th over - when they were 48/2 to 159/2 at the end of 14th over. With 33 runs coming in the 14th over itself. During these 6 over not only did they cover the gap but even took at lead to where Canada was after 14 over.

Breaking the records

USA broke it's own 6 records during the inning and in the 1st match of T20 World Cup

• Equal second most sixes in a T20 World Cup innings (10) with maximum being 11
• Second highest stand for the third-wicket in a Men’s T20 World Cup game (131 runs) after 152 runs 3rd wicket partnership by England
