Taking Ownership of Leadership

If you want this to be your best year yet, the year that your business grows and you reach the heights you have always aspired to, then you need to step up as a leader.
Too often I see people shirk away from being a leader based on the notion that you need to have a big team to be a leader. Wrong. You are a leader the moment you have one team member, and so you must act and lead accordingly.
I hear people say ‘when I have a big team I will do this’, when in fact we should do for a few what you would do for many. To be a leader that people can relate to and aspire to follow you need to…..
- Be approachable: the best leaders believe that everyone, regardless of rank or ability, is worth their time and attention.
- Be humble: great leaders don’t act as though they’re better than you, because they don’t think they’re better than you, instead they see their leadership position as additional accountability to serve those who follow them.
- Be positive: even in undeniably negative situations, the best leaders have and demonstrate an enthusiastic hope for the future, a confidence that they can help make tomorrow better than today.
- Be generous: true leaders are unfailingly generous with whom they know, what they know and the resources they have.
- Have integrity: leaders inspire trust and admiration through their actions, not just their words, so make sure you practice what you preach.
