Taking Ownership - Daymond John

Binghamton, NY / Last week, Daymond John was featured on the cover of Kind Magazine. If there's one thing that John knows about, it's taking ownership. John takes ownership with everything he's gone after in his life and that's the very reason he's one of the most respected entrepreneurs of our time.
Known as The People's Shark, John has come a long way from turning a $40 budget into FUBU, a $6 billion fashion game-changer. Throughout his career, Daymond has continued to be an entrepreneur while taking ownership in every sense of the word.?Let's dive further into what it means to take true ownership.
TAKING OWNERSHIP
How can you truly build the best you if you constantly pass blame onto others for your lack of progress, growth, or success?
“I intended to follow through, but…”
“I never heard back from her, so…”
“I would have, if only he had followed up and…”
You’ve likely heard this: “He’s got every excuse in the book.”?
Do you want to be known as someone who makes excuses for everything, or someone that people can count on? “We can count on her because she always comes through.”
Taking ownership means doing whatever it takes to fulfill whatever commitment you've made.
Give yourself permission to permanently throw away the excuses. This principle will not?fully take effect until you command radical ownership of everything you say and do. Think before you speak, making promises to yourself or others. Only commit when you can deliver.

In life, it’s easy to point the finger, but how can you build the best version of yourself if you’re not looking within? Before you point your finger next, do so using the reflection principle, while looking in the mirror. The only person you will be pointing your finger towards is yourself.
How many times have you wanted to take the easy way out, only the find out there is none? Shortcuts will lead you only in the wrong direction. There is no other path for exponential growth than to put in the work and take complete ownership of your actions. This means working harder than you ever had before. Staying up late, waking up early, doing the research, refining your skills through practice, preparing ahead, double-checking your work, and overcoming any type of procrastination through the act of discipline.?Adopting a routine to build a solid work ethic will provide you with the qualities needed to fully attain your goals while refining your skills to become the best version of yourself. You’ll no longer look to cut corners or take shortcuts when embracing the principle of taking ownership in everything you do.
“If people haven’t laughed at your dreams, then you aren’t dreaming big enough, just keep pushing forward.” –?Daymond John
Today, don’t just take ownership, take radical ownership like you never have before. Become obsessive in your discipline and follow through. No more excuses. No more passing blame. No more pointing the finger unless your finger’s pointed at you.?
The ironic part about taking ownership is the fact that it’s exactly where you’ll find fulfillment in carrying out your responsibilities. Happiness is generated when you take ownership of your actions, especially when you make a mistake. Your growth will come from acknowledging your mistake, and working even harder to ensure it doesn’t happen again.?
The principle of taking ownership is responsible and practical; it will quickly create a freedom of your mind, openness to your heart and comfort of your soul.
