Today was a good day. Once a month I have the opportunity to step away from the day to day work I do and meet with a diverse group of business owners to talk about our businesses. It allows a different perspective and hearing advice which most of us don't have a chance to do as we are running the day to day.

It reminds me of the need for all of us to take a moment and step back from the routine. One of my favorite movies is 'Dead Poets Society'. And one of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Robin Williams is leaving the school after a death of a student and many of his class stands on their desks to the call of 'Captain my Captain'.

While we don't have to stand on our desks at work (but hey it would be fun) perhaps we can take the time to change our view. That may mean doing something unexpected and surprising. Imagine what our kids might say if we sent them a picture of ourselves edited to look foolish. And at the very least it will allow us all to look at the world in a different way.
