Decision makers need answers, and they should not have to think about the data problems in their organisations. There is more about the strategy here at the Data Relish blog.

Data Relish can help you with solutions that offer simplicity, clarity, and a way out of potentially embarrassing data situations. Haven't heard of GDPR? That's another obstacle in your way.

Why is your data important, anyway? What's the fuss?

The Turnbull Report, also known as the Internal Control: Guidance for Directors on the Combined Code (1999) was a report drawn up with the London Stock Exchange for listed companies.

The report informed directors of their obligations under the Combined Code with regard to keeping good "internal controls" in their companies, or having good audits and checks to ensure the quality of financial reporting and catch any fraud before it becomes a problem.

What does that mean for you? Suddenly, it means that company directors cannot ignore their data any more. The Turnbull report made data and its governance your problem.

Now, we have GDPR - what does this mean? The GDPR will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR. With so many businesses and services operating across borders, international consistency around data protection laws and rights is crucial both to businesses and organisations, and to individuals.

Who does GDPR apply to?

Most likely, you.

  • The GDPR applies to ‘controllers’ and ‘processors’. If you are currently subject to the DPA, it is likely that you will also be subject to the GDPR.
  • If you are a processor, the GDPR places specific legal obligations on you; for example, you are required to maintain records of personal data and processing activities.

What does GDPR mean for me?

  • You will have significantly more legal liability if you are responsible for a breach. These obligations for processors are a new requirement under the GDPR.

What should you do next?

At Data Relish, we are advising current customers as well as evangelising this message. We are setting up strategic partnerships and we want to help.
