Everything starts from somewhere. This is obvious, logical and has been this way forever. And although we know this and are perfectly aware that if we want to get things done, we need to... start, this first step is often the hardest thing to do. Procrastination, difficult feelings, escaping thoughts and lots of strategies interfere with this essential stage of any action, big or small.
The significance of taking the first step lies in its transformative power. It is the catalyst that sets the wheels of progress in motion, propelling us from inertia to momentum.
Whether it's launching a new project, pursuing a passion, or embarking on a journey of self-discovery, the simple act of Starting ignites a chain reaction of possibility, opportunities, and experiences.
Most people wait until they feel ready or see some kind of sign ”to do it or not to do it”. This only prolongs the anxiety of standing in the same place and it's a form of procrastination that only brings frustration.
I get it, despite its importance, taking the first step into action can be one of the most daunting tasks we face:
often hold us back from venturing into the unknown.
However, precisely in these moments of hesitation our courage and determination are tested.
I've learned that the key to overcoming the inertia of starting lies in adopting the right mindset and approach: instead of considering starting as a daunting challenge, I've come to see it as the mandatory element that gets me the end results truly want. With this in mind, I think less of the actual step and more of the bigger goal.
By reframing my perspective and focusing on the possibilities that lie ahead, I've been able to take that first into action and create momentum. In the end, how I feel about a task doesn't have to impact the fact that I still need to do it.

I take some time to reflect before and after
I've found that reflection plays a crucial role in preparing myself for the journey ahead. By taking the time to clarify my goals, identify potential obstacles, and build a plan of action, I empower myself to start the hard tasks with greater clarity and confidence.
Then, I reflect back at what happened, what my actions were, my feelings, my thoughts and the partial results. I do this to learn from my experience.
Self-management is another invaluable skill that helps me overcome the inertia of starting. By breaking down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable ones, I prevent overwhelm and maintain progress and momentum.
Emotional awareness is also crucial in navigating the challenges of starting. By acknowledging and validating my fears and doubts, I prevent them from paralyzing me into inaction. Instead of allowing difficult emotions to dictate my behavior, I cultivate a sense of acceptance, resilience, and optimism, embracing the inevitable setbacks and obstacles as natural parts of the process.
In both life and work, the ability to start - and follow through - on boring, hard projects is essential for success and fulfillment. Whether it's tackling a challenging assignment at work, starting a new exercise program, or embarking on a personal development process, the willingness to push past discomfort and resistance is what separates those who merely dream from those who achieve.
