Mastering Leadership and Artificial Intelligence in Business.

Mastering Leadership and Artificial Intelligence in Business.

Well, Bill Gates has his cabin by the lake. I have found mine in Oxford, along with several other explorers, as we continue on a journey of understanding how businesses can best make use of AI. It may not have the same rustic charm, but Jesus College Oxford and Sa?d Business School, University of Oxford provide a great place to debate and discuss the future of AI.

I will share some of my own insights and that of our conversation in separate notes.

However, for the moment, I want to share the need for all of us, especially senior leaders, to make space for periods of reflective learning and conversation. At Oxford, we are lucky to have a number of lecturers who are able to provide both insight and provocation. Just when you thought you knew it, they hit you with another idea, and in a very engaging and passionate manner, Dr Alex Connock Marc J Ventresca Kejia Hu Rhonda Vetere and many more.

So why more now than before? Taking time away to focus on one's personal growth and intellectual stimulation is always valuable. However, in the time of Generative AI - if we are really going to understand how we benefit and get value, then time studying the Transformation potential is key. Recognizing how it could radically enhance decision-making and strategic planning is too significant an opportunity to miss. Workforces demand this of us; they look to leadership for guidance, and finally, society needs brave leaders, courageous leaders to ensure that the appropriate ethical and regulatory challenges are met.

I look forward to my deeper dives into AI and its role in Business.

Plus the opportunity to shape the future of AI with many of my fellow cohort Oliver Style, Cynthia Lee, Johannes Pfister, Ruth Nicolas, Paul Kanareck, Mario Eguiluz Alebicto, Dariusz Ossowski, Hriday Balachandran, Annemarie Bloemen-Patberg, David Hawks, Amanda Molina, Sam Carter, Joel T., Laurent Broca, Udayan Adhye, Carlotta Laetitia Mondino, Rob Hale, Zoe (Yi) Zou, Marinus Pretorius, Dina Martynkina, Margarita Jablonskaja, Joe Ward and many more!

Thanks John Clarke for this insightful and interesting post. I very much agree that planned time out for planning in an effective location, whether its AI or strategy design and implementation is really critical for boards. I remember seeing a report that on average boards spend on average 2 hours per quarter on strategic planning and I assume that includes AI. I would be interested in your experience on this, but part of the challenge is that given the novelty, having a structured way of planning, assessing, implementing and controlling risk is really important. The same goes with strategy design and innovation. My experience is that far from stifling adoption, it gives a way for boards to express creativity but in a controlled way that gets to outcomes faster.
