Taking Control by Taking Action
The Irresistible Force of Action
Do you have a vision of how you would like your life to be? Have you created a set of goals for yourself that would enrich your life and make your journey thoroughly worthwhile? Whilst we’re all encouraged to develop greater focus and clarity in our lives by choosing our own set of personal goals and objectives to pursue, the fact is that most people are more concerned about dealing with life’s daily challenges and don’t think too much about the importance of having a set of clearly-defined goals to aim for.
Life can sometimes be overwhelming and it’s easy to feel that we have more than enough to contend with on a daily basis without the added burden of long-term goals and objectives. Does that sound familiar to you?
He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.
― Friedrich Nietzsche
But, despite the constant pressures and stresses of modern-day living, we‘re far more capable than we might imagine. The fact is that we waste an enormous amount of time and energy every day pursuing activities that are simply unproductive. We generate thoughts and feelings that obstruct our creativity and distract us from what might be possible. When we spend our lives reacting to whatever’s happening rather than actively choosing our course and direction, it’s no wonder that we find ourselves drifting like a rudderless ship without a clear sense of purpose. It’s one of the many reasons that people feel powerless today against the random tides of fortune. No wonder we prefer to soothe our troubled minds with the constant drip-feed of an addictive social media device.
Purpose gives meaning to our lives.
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
There is a world of difference between having a dream that serves as a retreat from the harshness of the world and having a goal that inspires you to channel your efforts towards its completion. And that’s an important distinction because too many dreams are nothing more than a pleasant distraction. They’re pleasant, that’s for sure, but they’re also completely unchallenging because they don’t require us to do anything. They’re a safe and comfortable escape from the pressures of the world. But they’re not very helpful. And, in many ways, they soak up the kind of energy that could be used for something infinitely more worthwhile. The energy that’s diverted towards daydreaming could be invested in the fulfilment of your goals.
Live the Life of Your Dreams: Be brave enough to live the life of your dreams according to your vision and purpose instead of the expectations and opinions of others.
― Roy T. Bennett
The critical factor that grants the power to convert your dreams into a tangible and very rewarding slice of reality - is your decision to take action. You might wish with all your heart for something to happen but it’s highly unlikely to materialise unless you take the appropriate steps to turn your vision into reality. Action provides the key. It’s the switch that directs focus and energy towards a very clear objective. It’s the force that overcomes inertia. It’s the generator that produces results. It’s the missing ingredient that’s often overlooked in the midst of a busy day. Action makes all the difference.
Believe in your heart that you're meant to live a life full of passion, purpose, magic and miracles.
― Roy T. Bennett
As an antidote to feelings of being powerless and a perfect response to difficulties and challenges, action helps to restore your confidence and your sense of being in control of your life. This is especially relevant when you’ve encountered major obstacles or faced a crushing defeat. Your willingness to get back up and take the appropriate steps to recover your position is the hallmark of a focused and successful individual. And success is underwritten by a daily application of the necessary actions.
Perhaps this is the distinguishing factor that endows our lives with a sense of satisfaction. We identify precisely what we intend to achieve and then we apply the requisite effort to make our vision a reality.
So, in place of those comfortable but nebulous dreams that offer the sweetness of escapism, dare to turn your dreams into precisely-defined goals, located within a clearly-defined time frame and supported by a daily To Do list that details exactly what needs to be done in order to turn your dreams into a tangible set of results.
Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it
― Buddha
Action, moving your life forwards with a fierce sense of purpose, is one of the simplest and most empowering changes in attitude you can create for yourself. It allows you to experience the advantages of assuming an active role in shaping your future, rather than passively accepting the vagaries of a life that has no course to follow.
Make a clear declaration right now that you’re going to breathe life and form into your dreams by acting with clarity, purpose and determination in the daily quest to achieve your goals.
Ask yourself what you need to do to resolve, improve or develop your situation. Action will always provide the means to the answer.
