Taking Challenges Head-On: The Power of a Positive Mindset -(Part 1)

This week, I’m packing up and heading to the Tetons for what promises to be an incredible adventure with my CliffCo. think tank group. We’re talking about hiking 11 miles and biking 28 through some of the most beautiful terrain imaginable. To say I’m excited would be an understatement. But if I’m honest, I’m also a little nervous.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken on something this physically demanding. Sure, I’ve got a background as an athlete and a 2nd-degree black belt, but let’s just say the ‘rust’ is real! That being said, one thing I’ve learned through the years—both in business and in life—is that it’s not about being fearless. It’s about how you approach the challenge. You can either shy away from it, or you can face it head-on with a positive mindset.

Facing the Challenge

When we’re confronted with something that feels intimidating—whether it’s an 11-mile hike or a major business goal—our instinct might be to question ourselves. Am I prepared for this? What if I fall short? But the truth is, those questions don’t serve us. What does serve us is approaching the challenge with the belief that we can succeed. I’m choosing to focus on the adventure ahead, the beauty of God's Country, and the strength I know I have (even if it’s a little rusty!).

I’m also incredibly excited to bond with the other members of this mastermind group, especially the group of incredible ladies I’m traveling with. We’ve decided to add on a few extra days of sight-seeing and exploration—because, after all, what’s a trip to the Tetons without some extra adventure?

The Power of Mindset

Mindset is everything. Whether you’re tackling a physical challenge or a professional one, the way you think about it will determine how you approach it and how you feel about the outcome. A positive mindset doesn’t mean ignoring the tough stuff—it means embracing the possibility of growth. This trip is more than just a physical test for me; it’s a reminder to stay open, push my limits, and trust that I’ve got what it takes.

I’ll be sharing more in next week’s newsletter about what this experience taught me, both on and off the trail. But for now, I’m gearing up, excited for the challenge ahead, and ready to see what I’m capable of (with plenty of ice packs and ibuprofen waiting at the finish line, of course!).
