There is one thing that everyone knows about a CEO's routine, it is stressful. Even when there is no emergency CEOs stay under pressure, they have to create business strategies, engage thousands of employees, go through investors, and fend off rivals.?
But can the role literally make their lives shorter?
According to a study by Frederik Anseel, Professor of Management and Senior Deputy Dean (Research & Enterprise) at UNSW Business School, the pressure of the corporate environment has severe effects on CEOs' health and mortality. His study found that in a crisis which causes the company's share price to fall by 30% or more, CEO mortality rates increased and the ageing process accelerated.?
“Through a very clever analysis researchers were able to show that the mortality rates of CEOs increase if the company goes through a serious crisis, while the CEO would on average age a year-and-a-half during that period,” he explained.

Being highly effective people, CEOs want to spend as much time being productive for their company as possible. Thus they neglect their health.
But people need to be healthy to stay productive.?
"83% of CEOs report missing at least one day of work due to stress, burnout and mental health challenges.”

A lot of stress leading to poor mental health in CEOs has been normalized for too long. They are expected to put work challenges before their self-care.
And many CEOs feel like they’re running in a tunnel which has no light in the end…
