Taking Calculated Risks

In the past week I have announced a few HUGE PROJECTS I'm up to, that are also HUGE RISKS, such as returning to my roots and putting together a string of public shows, not certain at all that people would still want to see me perform my one-man show at this stage of my career.
I have been stunned by the outpouring of support (if you follow me on Facebook you can see HERE and HERE what everyone is saying, even buying tickets in bulk), and what is scheduled to be 9 shows over a 2 week run are in the process of nearly selling out a year in advance, in a world famous theater of ~450 seats, I am so grateful you would make it clear you'd be there. And of course it doesn't hurt to have the support of of one of the greatest theaters on earth, Hale Centre Theatre !
TIX are HERE if you haven't gotten yours yet.
On Friday I announced a NEW YouTube Channel that launches this week, and YOU are the FIRST to get a sneak peek at it HERE - this is created with the intention of helping the many who come to me with questions about public speaking, how to do it better, make it a career, get over the fear of speaking, and even tips on giving a better presentation at work.
I will be answering many specific questions across the board, from the power of a promise, to why it's lonely at the top, how to get gigs as a comedian, prepare a talk for a funeral, etc... subjects that few have addressed, and hope I'll get your support there, as well, as the first to subscribe, like, and share the content.
In fact, as of this writing, I have 2 Videos and 2 subscribers so far, and I'm one of them - LOL! We will populate new videos every few days from now on, if you'll join me there as well to be first, I believe this will be an awesome channel.
3 years ago this month I wrote and launched a book that was a complete flop in terms of sales and commercial success, even though it debuted at #1 in a few niche Amazon categories, and it broke my heart to not see it do what we expected.
The title of "The Promise To The One" was too obscure and spiritual sounding, the cover made corporate buyers who had me at their event as Keynote Speaker afraid to purchase it for all event attendees, since it appeared too religious, and yet those who opened it and gave it a chance claim it has changed their lives and careers.
But it was a failure in the category of sales.?At this point all I can hope is that somehow over time this book will be appreciated for what it is as people find it one at a time.
I lost a whole lot of time, money, and momentum with that happening to my family and business, as did the publisher, which was devastating for all of us.
I thank those who purchased it despite the confusion of marketing it must have been...and so grateful for the 128 Reviews you put on Amazon , and the few clients who bought hundreds of books for their event attendees, you made such a difference in our lives. Go check out some of the wonderful reviews , they're incredible! (and to those who gave it less than 5 Stars, "I know who you are, where you live, and I want you to know...I have a certain set of skills, and when I find you I will have to use those skills..." ok, kidding, but does anyone else have Liam Neeson's voice in their head?)
You, as my audience, get to watch me swing for the fences and strikeout more often than I hit home runs. I wish they were all home runs. I figure they're all going to be home runs, at least that's how I step up to the plate, and am shocked when they're not.
I hope as you watch me succeed in some ways, and fail in others, it gives you COURAGE to take your calculated risks. Whether that's reading my stories of being a bonehead dad or businessman, getting injured and working through it, or the couple of successes I'm thankful have happened, such as getting a standing ovation instead of a sitting ovation.

What risks are you taking as you move into the 2nd half of this year?
The YouTube Channel is costing me a lot of time, money, and effort. It may be one of the hardest projects I've ever done. I don't know if it will be profitable, if people will like it, watch it, or if I'm even good at making videos like this...and that's why I have to do it.
The Shows at Hale Centre Theatre are a HUGE risk for the theater, as they've always done surefire hits from Broadway and never brought in a one-man show that was over a decade removed from the last sold-out public show run of more than one night since 2011. I "retired" from public events when my son Royal was born in order to focus on other career aspirations, and I'm thankful it's time to step into a new light of my career. But it's a risk for them and for me.
I just want to say Thank You for supporting me, hanging with me, and inspiring me with the risks you've taken and shared with me. I applaud and support you.
The Promise is to continually try new things, sometimes open old doors and dust off the playbook to see what we can repurpose, and keep Promises to ourselves to never stop growing.
August is in full swing, summer break comes soon to it's close.?I wish you the best in your many calculated risks and hope you'll Proclaim your Promise and share your risks you're taking in the comments, and thank you for supporting mine.
