I have to say, I was dreading vacation.
As an entrepreneur, it seems like if I am not working I am just taking steps backwards. If I am not pushing and pushing, that I am going to fail.
I've never been one to take breaks and I can't say that it is always the best quality that I have. Yes, I am hardworking, but to a fault at times.
As life has gone on, I have learned to be a little more balanced, but only enough to survive sometimes.
This trip was different though.
See, my Dad lives in Northern Michigan, in a small town called Petoskey. It's a quaint little town, filled with flowers, nature, and lakes. If you've ever heard Kid Rock's Song, it's about my home town.
He lives in a log cabin in the woods, with no distractions, no noise, just the blowing of trees and the sound of birds chirping.
With the hustle and bustle of Houston, this was a completely different environment for me to be in, and forced me to have a different perspective.

It got me out of my anxiety, stress, and need to be working 24/7.
Honestly, I slept half the time in the 65 degrees weather with a cool breeze. I didn't know how much lack of sleep I had until my vacation.
We didn't even do much, just rested and recovered from life really.
The time away helped me to have perspective on life, and really gave me a full picture of where I am at this moment. A full picture of where I want to go, who I want to be, and what the future holds.
I've never really had this experience before on a vacation, this full perspective. It felt like all the puzzle pieces were coming together in a cohesive way. Maybe, it was just my brain sorting out a lot of complex thoughts.
It's counterintuitive to say I need to take a break to be more productive, but that's exactly what it was.
If you're struggling from perspective, consider taking a break. Sometimes all we need is a little time away to think, regroup, and gain some peace.
Stepping back to step forward. ??
