Taking Action Matters

Taking Action Matters

The importance of taking action - and knowing its strengths and limitations - is one of the key ideas at the heart of my work. For years, I have been working to help people exercise agency rather than feeling stuck and helpless.

My first book, iDevelop, encourages professionals to take ownership of their development instead of waiting for others to chart their career paths. My second book, Do ONE THING and Do It Deep, is about driving culture change by focusing on a single, powerful message and taking action to make it stick.

This year, I’m continuing to lean into the importance of agency as a guiding principle with my next book, The Bad Day Playbook: What to do when everything sucks. It’s pretty much what it says in the title. I open the book with the quote from Barack Obama (above).

Hopefully, being more rested following the pre-holiday rush, the New Year will give you time to dream, plan, and hope as you prepare for action.

For 2025, I’m excited to share ideas, collaborate on projects, speak to curious audiences and tackle the backlog of books I'm keen to write that are currently just images and descriptions on my office wall.

I look forward to discovering what we can learn and do together this year.

The journey continues!

Until next time,

A great reminder to take control and act! ? Focusing on what we can create makes all the difference. ??
