#TakeYourShot Series Highlights Young Africans Taking a Lead in Sustainability Efforts.

Johannesburg, South Africa, 18 October 2024?– As anticipation builds for the prestigious Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony taking place for the first time on African soil in Cape Town this November, MultiChoice brings you the next episode of #TakeYourShot series which will spotlight the inspiring efforts of young Africans leading sustainability initiatives.
The exciting episode will be live on Instagram on?Thursday, 24 October 2024, at?19:00 (CAT). The dynamic actress, producer, activist, and host of #TakeYourShot, Nomzamo Mbatha will engage in a compelling conversation with two distinguished MultiChoice Talent Factory Directors, Victoria Nzale Goro and Atinuke Babatunde. Together, they will share their personal journeys and emphasis the crucial role of youth in sustainability initiatives, highlighting impactful projects undertaken by the MTF academies as well as the short films produced on climate change.
Victoria, from our Eastern Africa Academy, has over 31 years of experience in film production and talent development. She is a recipient of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya and is passionately committed to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers while advocating for sustainability within the industry.
Atinuke, representing the West Africa Academy, brings over 20 years of experience in entertainment and media management. As a former Head of Channel at Africa Magic, her expertise in content strategy and branding is matched by her dedication to mentoring emerging talents.
The Earthshot Prize recognises groundbreaking solutions under the key goals: protecting and restoring nature, cleaning our air, reviving our oceans, building a waste-free world, and addressing climate change.?In line with these goals, MultiChoice Talent Factory students are taking a proactive stance on sustainability efforts. The Eastern Africa Academy is mobilizing the youth in East Africa, where 80% of the population is made up of young people.
Through their Public Service Announcements which have proven effective in promoting climate action and encouraging youth participation.
Last year’s PSA, themed "Be the Change, Fight Climate Change," celebrated youth contributions to climate action, reiterating their role in advocating for environmental justice. This year’s PSA, "Uniting for a Sustainable Tomorrow," aligns with Kenya’s goal of reducing emissions by 32% by 2030 and transitioning fully to clean energy. The PSA encourages youth to spearhead transformative initiatives, particularly in tree planting and ecosystem restoration. In support of the PSA and to demonstrate commitment, the academy launched a reforestation project at Nderi Primary School, planting 40 indigenous hardwood trees to enhance green cover and support local fruit production.
The MTF West Africa Academy, using their film production skills and resources produced three educational films on climate change for The Earthshot Prize:
