It takes a whole orchestra to play a symphony
They say toxic teams talk about each other.
Transactional teams talk over email.
Transformational teams talk face to face about what's really going on under the surface.
The way my current team has been functioning and collaborating is like daily dose of mental therapy. Everything seems to be flowing in complete synchronization. A state of perfect resonance.
While none of these folks are active on LinkedIn and may never get to read this , this post captures a gist of my understanding and analysis of how we have functioned, that led to successful and hassle-free deliveries.
While everybody wants to be a part of a transformation team, the question is, what is it that the transformational teams do differently that they understand the mission and possess the skills to deliver urgently and precisely what is envisioned?
As an observer, I could zero down on some of the key characteristics that my team possesses and maybe is common across all transformational teams. Such teams have a clear understanding of what is expected of them as a team as well as individuals in their respective roles. Trust factor and mutual respect for each other’s work holds paramount position. Good problem solving , effective and timely decision making skills is another key aspect. Being flexible towards one’s approach and high adaptability serves as another key criteria. However, what binds all these ingredients together is experienced folks with clear, crisp and transparent communication, that?connects with?its audience at a deeper level.
Taking some examples to explain, if you imagine Apple’s key players as the musicians then Steve Jobs was the? man playing the orchestra through his effective communication and leadership style .Steve Jobs never tried to sell technology but experience. He humanized technology like nobody else could. As a result, Apple's marketing messages were always clear and straightforward, emphasizing their products' ease of use and user-friendly nature. This simplicity extended to the product design, packaging, and user interfaces, creating a cohesive brand experience. Out of the box thinking and bold decision making is another important trait that transformational teams possess.
Satya Nadella?and his team for,? example?reinvented?the gigantic Microsoft Corporation by removing the ubiquitous Windows Operating System as the company’s main product and switched the focus to cloud services.? Their combined decisions pulled Microsoft from the brink of irrelevance and turned it into one of the most valuable companies in the world, with a market valuation north of a?trillion dollars. Satya Nadella stopped infighting among team members, encouraged a culture of curiosity, and emphasized soft skills within the company
Hence, while turning a team into a transformational one isn’t an overnight process; choosing the right people and incorporating the right values can surely create one.
Like Sheryl Sandberg once said ‘There is no perfect fit when you're looking for the next big thing to do. You have to take opportunities and make an opportunity fit for you, rather than the other way around ‘?!
