It takes a village to raise a child. But to rebuild a village, we need all hands on deck!

Right now, many villages in the Al Haouz province, south of Marrakech, Morocco, have been destroyed by the Earthquake. Our children are either dead, injured, or orphans. The impact goes beyond the immediate and mid-terms. These people have lost not only their family members and homes, but also, resources of all kinds, including access to water, electricity, and food.

The Association Avenir Toubkal launches Operation Reconstruction & Resilience, today. Our aim is to give the chance to turn the page of the tragedy and to heal for as many of the disaster-stricken families as possible.

Winter is coming. The temperature in the Al Haouz region can reach as low as -10°C at night. Without a roof over their heads, these families will have to bear the double penalty.

The Rural Education Complex of Aghbalou, which is owned and managed by the association, will provide a temporary home for some of the families affected (depending on the accommodation capacity). Their children will be able to study at the boarding school onsite to prevent sacrificing their school year.

With Operation Reconstruction & Resilience, we can create a dignified living environment and build a new village district in Aghbalou on a plot of land that has already been identified.

This operation will enable the construction of homes that meet anti-seismic and PMR standards, and can accommodate families of 8 to 10 people. It will offer the comfort and sanitary facilities needed. It will also be built on plots which allow residents to cultivate a garden, reach self-sufficiency in vegetables, and have a source of income.
