It Takes A Village

It Takes A Village

The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” comes from an African proverb that means it takes a community of people (hence village) to provide a safe and healthy environment for children to develop and flourish. Today, we use the phrase as simply “it takes a village” as it can be applied to all aspects of life that thrive with community.?

Throughout treatment and during recovery, the support of your “village” is vital. It’s important to identify supportive communities once you’ve completed treatment, such as AA, trauma support groups, church, and more. There are also beautiful connections to be made with like minded individuals in the treatment center alumni groups.?

The “village” will look different for everyone because we’re all different. What matters is the support to make you feel safe and seen to grow and flourish both during and after treatment.

It's nice to see an old African proverb reimagined to affect everyday life.
