It Takes Time To Change
Many clients attend our Intensive Outpatient Program and want to complete the program in a short time. They often ask when does it end and can then get done in 3-4 months. Based on our experience the longer they stay in treatment the better the chance they can maintain sobriety and develop effective relapse prevention skills. Most of the clients who stay for 6- 12 months are successful and make major changes in their lives. The ones who leave early often return fairly soon when they relapse or have legal problems. We find that we need to address their attitude about committing to a longer period of treatment then they first expected. This makes a significant difference in the outcome.
