It takes structure to be flexible

‘10000 changes, no surprises’ was my discovery of this week! I came across this concept in a conversation with an elite group practicing martial arts… as always, curiosity made me ask them what this meant…. it is state of excellence in martial arts, where no move by the opponent surprises you, because there is no move that you cannot read or have not prepared for! …. It’s a state of the mind to be prepared for anything !

…So how is this possible, I enquired? “Years of building strong foundational structure, understanding of the form, and finally transcending the current state over and over to reach flexibility of the structure & form”, said the Sensei.

I was rejoicing with this new found knowledge, and as I walked back home, the words of the Sensei kept going on in my mind; foundation, form and flexibility ….

Can this apply in the corporate world, to create organizations that reach a state where they can be prepared for anything?

Here’s my take on it, and I would love to hear your thoughts ….

Step1: Foundation: Craft work structures on the strong foundation of the four pillars of skills and merit, processes and values

Step 2 Framework: Design work rhythm which allows for creativity and collaboration

Step 3 Flexibility: Strengthen work ethics that don’t get challenged by circumstances or unfair practices
