It takes courage to light a lamp

Lighting a lamp is an act of courage. You light a lamp when you want to see what is otherwise not visible. You don’t know what the lamp is going to illuminate, what was till now conveniently hidden in the darkness will suddenly get exposed to you. Lighting a lamp is expressing a desire to venture on an unknown path, without knowing where it is going to take you. It is also about a promise, that you will see whatever gets shown to you, in an equanimous way. It is not about seeing what you want to see but seeing it as it exists. And then, it is not just about seeing, but accepting it too. Why do you want to see otherwise, unless there is a commitment to accept what you discover? Not that the acceptance will absolve you from not acting on it, in fact acceptance opens the possibility that you can act on it. How can you act on something with authenticity and genuineness, which you have not accepted? Therefore, there is also a desire to act when required.?

Lighting a lamp is about making a commitment. In the whole process of making a commitment, seeing what gets shown to you, accepting it, and acting on it, you also discover something about yourself. You realize that it is an inward journey rather than outward. The lamp illuminates something inside you as well. An internal flame gets kindled.?

This Diwali, let us light a lamp.

Wishing you a very happy Diwali.
