NWSL Gears Up for Regular Season, WNBA Hits Record-High Value
? February was another milestone month for women’s sports sponsorship in the U.S., with continued momentum across leagues, teams, and brands investing in the space. The NWSL saw strong engagement as the league geared up for the 2024 season, with sponsorship activations increasing across digital and broadcast channels. The Kansas City Current have made a name for themselves this month on socials, bringing in $53.3K in social post value and 81K engagements so far in February (02/01/2025-02/10/2025) - nearly $20K more than the next highest-performing team (Trajektory, Industry Insights Platform). Additionally, the league’s expansion clubs continued to generate buzz, signaling the growing commercial viability of women’s soccer.
? The WNBA remained in the sponsorship spotlight following its record-breaking 2024 season, generating $136 million in sponsor media value, with Nike leading at $31.2 million. The league added 155 new sponsors—a 34% increase—across 27 categories, reflecting growing brand investment (Business Wire, Sponsor United). Meanwhile, women’s NIL deals surged, with 52% of the top 100 NIL athletes being women, up from 38% in 2022. Basketball dominates, making up 35% of women’s NIL deals, with stars like Caitlin Clark securing major partnerships with Nike, Gatorade, and State Farm (Marketing Brew, Wikipedia). As engagement and sponsorship value continue rising, brands are finding innovative ways to capitalize on the momentum heading into March Madness and beyond.
