Your lighter darkens the planet, even if it lights your object. Ever imagined, how would the ocean of lighters made with plastic bodies get disposed?
My realisation began after completely using 3 lighters and their empty bottles lying with me, making me wonder what future of them, would I like to see? I came across empty paper pack of lighter lingering around with text "50 PCS, Made in China, It's better - It's Zara" and I saw the brands of my lighters - Star, Alba and GOM which makes me wonder, how many brands would be manufacturing these plastic bottled lighters and what about the one's whose lighter is not functioning and the liquid (hazardous) is still inside the lighter unused.
The sad truth is more than?350 million disposable lighters end up in landfills every year, and some are even eaten by animals. (Source)
The market does provide option to refill them, but that solution, is rarely available in general stores compared to the ready access to buy a new lighter.
It would be interesting to learn, how do some of our readers dispose these? For me, due to my ignorance on the subject, I would switch back to good old matchsticks to light up the incense sticks.
