Take your "staycation" to the next level

Weekend Radar: July 8 to July 10, 2016

Who says you have to hop on a plane to be a jetsetter? This weekend, we’re taking you around the world, right here in town. Whisk your lady away to watch classic French cinema, then dance all night to Afrobeat. Or pretend you’re in Pamplona, and run for your life from bulls in the form of babes on rollerskates. Now that’s what we call a “staycation.”

“The Running of the NOLA Bulls isn’t as dangerous as its namesake inspiration in Pamplona, Spain. But runners — or corredors, clad in white outfits with red scarves or accoutrements — may want to size up the bulls before taking their chances. Hundreds of women from roller derby teams — including the Big Easy Roller Girls and other regional leagues — equip their helmets with custom horns to ‘gore’ runners and plastic bats wielded with varying degrees of force. The three-quarter-mile course returns runners to the Sugar Mill, where there is music by Vivaz and Quickie Mart, a mechanical bull, a costume contest for participating bulls and more (registration required).” [via Gambit]
