At the end of August, thousands will pack up their bags in pursuit of a unique experience. They’ll board planes across the globe, luggage filled with overnight essentials and minds filled with inspiration. Where are they headed? Some are going to BlackRock Desert for the Burning Man Project festival. Others are traveling to Copenhagen for the annual Aging Research & Drug Discovery Meeting (ARDD).?

While Burning Man and ARDD may seem worlds apart, they draw passionate and dedicated audiences. The events are also similar in their emphasis on community. All are welcome, and experienced attendees gladly show “newbies” the ropes.

2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the ARDD event. Whether you’re returning for your tenth year or considering joining virtually for your first, the event offers something suited to your goals. I’ll share some highlights below.?

Why do industry conferences matter? The history of ARDD

COVID-19 transformed how we approach industry events. While monthly conferences and regular international travel were normal for many pre-pandemic, event quality has surpassed event quantity. Time is our most valuable resource, and even events require careful consideration of personal and company ROI.?

Measuring this ROI is difficult. Do you count how many business cards you exchange? New LinkedIn connections? Inspiring keynotes or thought-provoking panels? Every attendee comes to an event with different goals. What they get out of the event depends on what they put in.?

I attend many events throughout the year, and ARDD always stands out because of its emphasis on these themes. ARDD started as a small forum for the industry’s first longevity pioneers. Ten years later, it has expanded to be a global event while keeping that same tight-knit feeling at its core.?

Get to know medicine, emerging technology, and more at ARDD 2023

The longevity field is broad. It includes therapeutics, diagnostics, medicine, technology, public policy, and more. Covering its many subsectors in just five days might seem impossible. Thanks to a carefully curated speakers list, ARDD comes close.?

The event begins with the Longevity Medicine Workshop, an interactive day of content that unites healthcare providers for essential conversations on longevity in the clinic. Translating lab findings to everyday healthcare is one of the longevity field’s main priorities. Its top-notch speakers include Evelyne Bischof, MD, PhD , Tzipi Strauss , Alex Zhavoronkov , Andrea B. Maier , Morten Scheibye-Knudsen , Matt Kaeberlein and more. It will also present an update from the Healthy Longevity Medicine Society after its launch at ARDD last year.?

Day two of the event is all about emerging technologies. While anti-aging is primarily a medical pursuit, it requires foundational technology to achieve widespread adoption. The future of longevity will be strongly influenced by advancements in blockchain, robotics, AI, and rapid prototyping. Other highlights include a presentation from longevity expert David A. Sinclair A.O., Ph.D. , poster sessions on cutting-edge longevity research, and end-of-day drinks and networking sessions. LongeVC and the Longevity Science Foundation will be hosting the speaker’s gala dinner, an opportunity for the leading minds in longevity to come together and discuss the industry’s (bright!) future.?

ARDD represents the best of our growing community. Last year, Youth Longevity Association members presented their work making longevity opportunities accessible for high school students. At the same event, longevity veterans spoke on breakthrough approaches to change how we understand and experience aging.?
