TAKE YOUR EMOTIONS ALONG, BUT….

There I was, driving peacefully on the road. Until this crazy dude overtook my car, speeding up on the wrong side! How could he? This is ridiculous? I will teach him a lesson.?
My blood boils. I speed up and start cutting through the traffic to get ahead of this driver. No basic sense of rules and regulations. And so, in my quest to go one-up, I sped up. Faster and faster. On road and gravel. I was making the same mistakes the other driver did. Until the inevitable happened. A crash was averted, but the straps and bruises stayed on, on the car and in my mind. I had let the emotions get the better of me that day.
Was this a one-off incident?
I am reminded of something I read in Reader’s Digest.
“Anyone driving slower than me is a moron.
Anyone driving faster than me is a maniac!”
When emotion sets in, reason flees.
It is true!
When I let anger and emotion set in, the decisions taken at that spur of the moment and the words shared were all mostly wrong.?
How is that pertinent to business growth?
As an entrepreneur and as a marketer, how do I make decisions? How do I decide on the next course of action?
Am I a victim of the shiny object syndrome? (I am)!
Isn’t it my emotion (and my ego) that crops up just so often?
Listening to Bob Burg, the actionable advice is clear.
“Take your emotions along for the ride
BUT
You must be the driver of the car and journey!”
True!
As the key business driver for my business ;), I will dip into and use emotions as and when applicable.?

Not the other way around.
This means that even if things aren’t going well, or they are, I will look at the facts and make decisions.
I remain the driver.
Hopefully, unflappable!

Simple and short. Pithy even. IT is more like a conversation with the reader. There is one message per chapter and each chapter is kept short.

1 年Thank you for sharing this excellent article, it helped me analyze instances in which I let my emotions get the better of me by taking me down memory lane in a matter of minutes. It made more sense when I read the quote, "Take your emotions along for the ride, BUT You must be the driver of the car and journey!" which was quoted in the article. Learning to control my emotions in my early 20s may be challenging, but I believe it is essential for everyone who wants to succeed in life.

Thank you, Pravin! Very grateful for your kind mention of the quote (inspired by my dear friend, Dondi Scumaci). I'm grateful that no one was seriously injured!
