BS 7671:2008+A3:2015 - 421.1.201
Within domestic (household) premises, consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies shall comply with BS EN 61439-3 and shall:
- Have their enclosures manufactured from non-combustible material, or
-
Be enclosed in a cabinet or enclosure constructed of non-combustible material and complying with Regulation 132.12.
Manufacturers and certification bodies are focusing on only one of the options that will ensure your installations will comply with the current version BS7671. There are 2 options as indicated above, don't be blinkered into only installing a single solution, look at what else is available.

9 年A very good point Colin, the amendment only gave metal as an example of non combustible, now taken as every consumer unit must be metal! As a valued authority on fire prevention how would you stand if you came across a plastic consumer unit that was internally lined with intumescent strip/putty? It would give 2 hours of protection in open environments,totally expand and cut one of the sources of fuel out of the equation and still be plastic. So could self extinguish very rapidly indeed in a closed environment.
