Take up Yoga to Help With Back Pain

Along with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity, back pain is one of most expensive chronic health conditions to treat. Clinicians are turning to nonsurgical alternatives for back pain suffers looking for measures that act as an appropriate form of preventive treatment in the hope to stop these costly injuries from worsening.

As one of the most significant contributing factors to back pain is the build-up of muscle tension impacting the spine, yoga is a no-brainer solution. While there is never a one size fits all for any medical condition, yoga has been listed as one of the most effective techniques to alleviate back pain because the variety of poses allow you to relax your muscles by stretching out and loosening those pesky tense areas. Often the muscles you need to stretch are uncommon and can be hard to reach. Through yoga, not only can you access these, but you can also build all over body strength, substantially improve your flexibility, and increase your stamina; all the core fundamentals that are considered a requirement when undergoing rehabilitation programs that target back pain.

By utilising a variety of specific yoga poses, you can take the stress off your back, helping you improve your spinal health so that you can move and walk that little bit easier without feeling excessive pain.

A recent study shows the improvement of individuals between the ages of 18 to 67 years of age. Before the trials, each participant had preexisting back pain for a minimum of three months - validated by a physician - and had never practised any form of yoga.

In comparison to the more vigorous varieties of yoga, Iyengar focuses explicitly on the detail of each pose; ensuring alignment, posture, and stability is as they should be throughout each position. Therefore, out of the 14 types of yoga available, Iyengar yoga is considered to be the most beneficial option as a remedy to back pain.

Through the use of necessary props, each Iyengar posture targets specific muscle groups. As a result, participants find the therapy assisted in the gradual release of muscle tension, allowing them to open up their joints, encouraging circulation throughout their body; decreasing inflammation in the back, substantially improving their overall spinal pain conditions. On a basis of committing to 180 min/week (two 90 min classes) a six month follow -up showed up to 58% reduction in pain experienced by the participants. It was noted that even greater results were shown at the twelve-month point, proving the longer the individual participated in yoga, the better the overall back health became.

It was noted that not only is Iyengar yoga a safe and extremely effective treatment for chronic spinal pain but also, long-term practitioners learn to harness an increased awareness of muscle use and posture, allowing them to make improvements throughout their daily life and pave the path to a much healthier spine.
