Take The Time To Show You Care

Years ago, I was fortunate to experience a year abroad as an exchange student.? It provided me with many memorable experiences that I hold dear to this day.? During this time, I met many other exchange students from around the world and it struck me at the time just how similar we really all are.
Since then, I have had the privilege of meeting many people from different companies, cultures and countries.? Time and time again, I have seen commonalities.? It does not matter that people may look different, dress differently, speak differently or live in different places around the world… ultimately, these commonalities exist.
One of these commonalities is the need to be seen, heard and valued.? You can make a difference in the lives of others, by taking the time to show you care. When you show you care, people feel seen, heard and valued.
When you take the time to notice those around you, you may observe that someone is not being their usual self, is suddenly not around or as involved as they used to be.? Perhaps they have not been present due to an illness, a loved one passing away or they might be dealing with some other challenge.? Take the time to reach out to them.??
It can be as simple as a quick note, a call or a hand-written card.? It shows you see them and this could make a positive difference in their lives.
Take the time to acknowledge those you interact with on a daily basis.? A simple smile, or greeting a stranger in a fleeting moment, can make someone feel seen and acknowledged.? Just being present and aware offers many opportunities for making a difference.
When I have helped clients with their personal, team and business growth, I have noticed that many value the opportunity to be listened to and to be heard; feeling they have a safe space to openly share their concerns.? We all need a confidante, someone to support us and someone we can trust.?
Take the time to let someone know you appreciate them.? Take the time to thank someone for their support or for going out of their way to help you.? Take the time to let your colleagues, team and employees know that you care and value them.?
As Teddy Roosevelt once said, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”?
No matter how busy your life may be, take the time to reach out to someone today.? We all can make a difference.?
