Take time

There is something I want to talk to you about this week. It’s something most of us have been dealing with in varying degrees for almost a year now and that something is change! I know this little word can invoke some anxiety. And that’s understandable as change can involve the unknown that is sometimes welcome and other times not!

That said, did you know, that our bodies are in a perpetual state of change? For example, our nails, ears and nose, and hair for many of us, continue growing throughout our lifetime. And even though we may not notice it, many cells in our bodies are constantly being renewed. Every four weeks, the epidermis, the outer layer of our skin is completely replaced. Our stomach lining is regenerated every four days. Over the course of a year, 95% of our trillions of cells are changed. The body’s regeneration powers are pretty amazing.

Of course, that change is happening with no effort on our part. But in those times when we’re confronted with a change from the outside, or when we find ourselves in a situation that needs to be altered or modified, the idea of change can be unsettling or even frightening. This can be a result of the uncertainty that change can bring, or because it pushes us out of our comfort zone.

In this week’s message, I hope to assuage your fear of change. I want to remind you that change actually brings opportunity, an opportunity to grow in a new direction. In fact, you should only fear not to change. I also want to leave you with words of wisdom about change from two well-known and influential personalities.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”
- Charles Darwin
“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.”
- Eleanor Roosevelt

I hope you will take this wisdom in. We can’t afford to let fears stagnate our lives. When a change appears suddenly in life, rather than retreat into your shell, I encourage you to embrace it, and look for the opportunities it presents to grow. Or when you reach a stalemate in life, don’t allow yourself to be paralyzed by it. If you need to, ask for support, but make the effort to step up and initiate the change you need to take your life to a better place!

May you never stop growing, my friend!
