It’s really important to PAUSE and take the step back! Perhaps you are excitedly reviewing research questions for an upcoming large survey, or are presenting at the conference soon and continuously polishing your pitch or are aimlessly looking for a suitable candidate for the role that has been opened for almost 3 months … You might be job searching or interviewing without much success. And if your frustration and anxiety grow daily…STOP and think! Are you still focusing on your initial goal or has it faded away? Sometimes we aimlessly throw ourselves into planning and executing, getting caught in the details until we ask ourselves a simple question WHY? Why am I doing it? So, it’s time to consider the larger picture and core goals of your research project, job search or recruitment brief. On every project, we should clearly define our research and business goals, as well as expected outcomes. We need to set realistic expectations (SMART still works!) and regularly check our progress against those goals. Sometimes taking the step back will be the best decision you will ever make. Self-reflection can result in a completely new career path and stop ‘the daily grind’. It can be the greatest thing you can do for your career. Good luck!
