Take the Shot

While we were on vacation this past week, I hit my first hole in one!

It was a very cool experience.

As we were on our drive home yesterday from Tennessee, I got to thinking about it. As I continue to learn and become a better version of myself, I always look for opportunities to learn.

A thought popped to mind as I was driving, so I asked Brooke (my wife) to text me this quote, “Are you putting yourself in the position to take the shot”.

The quote is by no means earth shattering, but the thought might just be. If nothing else it serves as a reminder to keep your disciplines and habits in check.

As I continue to reminisce about the hole in one, I have to think that it is only by chance and maybe a little luck, if you believe in that sort of thing, that everything aligned just perfectly for me to hit a 131 yard perfect shot on a hole that was setup perfectly just for that shot. The weather, where I placed the ball on the tee, how I lined up, the back swing, and the list goes on.

The more I thought about the experience, the more I thought about having put myself in the position to make the shot.

I started golfing consistently’ish seven years ago. I really enjoy the sport. It is a challenge for me.

As I relate this experience to life, I asked myself the same question. And I can happily say, I have put myself in a position to “take the shot”.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to reflect on the past six months, even year and ask yourself the same question.

Have you put yourself in a position to take and hit the shot you want?

Have you surrounded yourself with people who make you better, who want to see you succeed enough to tell you when your actions don’t align with your goals?

Have you disciplined yourself enough that even when you don’t feel like it, you do what’s needed because you know it’s the right thing to do, for both you and your family?

If an opportunity presents itself, can you confidently take the shot?
