Take Risks.
How will you ever truly know your full potential if you never take risks?
I totally get it, you have a steady job with a steady paycheck and that has been working out for the last several years. This is absolutely fine and I am sure that some of you even LOVE what you are doing on a daily basis and that SUPER!
What would you do if you went into work today and you had an email from someone offering you the job of a lifetime, I am talking your ultimate dream job, but it was only guaranteed full time work for 6 months and then you would be re-evaluated.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO…?
Do you stay put in your own little safe zone?
Or do you jump in with both feet, take that new job and show your new employer they were stupid for not hiring you sooner?!?!
We make hundreds, sometimes even thousands of decisions each and every day. Our brain is designed to handle most of these without us even knowing. (the human brain is an incredible thing!) If our brain is so smart how come it cant help us with the BIG decisions?!?!
The answer is simple… Because it is not an easy choice.
I personally had to make a big decision about 6 months ago. I was working for the #1 TV station in the market, had a great schedule, the pay good, and I worked with some great people. My phone rang one day and it was my previous employer who just so happened to live at the opposite end of the spectrum in the television market, but it was about way more than that to me.
If I took this new job, It would enable me to go back to my creative ways. The sky would be the limit. If I could think it up, we could most likely do it and that part of the job was missing at my current employer. Oh and did I mention it would be a significant pay increase???
Sounds like an easy decision right?
The factor that made this decision tough was that the TV station I would be going back to is a very small station run on a shoestring budget. A lot of the other stations talk about how we are going to “go under” and how we will never make it… So was I willing to risk a great job at the #1 station for my dream job at a station that may not be around forever…?
HECK YES!!!
No brainer for me! I looked at this as a challenge. I accepted the job at the smaller station and I have never been happier about that decision. We can only grow from here. I would love nothing more than to shut all the other stations up by producing award winning content on a daily basis and by stealing their clients with our extremely creative, outside the box approach.
I am not saying that you should jump at every opportunity that comes to you. I am saying if an opportunity arises that makes you stop and think "Wow, that could be a cool thing to try" then maybe you should go with your gut and give it a go!
Don't second guess yourself, these opportunities are coming to you for a reason and that's because YOU ARE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO! So go out there and prove it!
I would rather say “I am glad I went for it even if it failed” now as opposed to “I wish I had gone for it” in the future.
Have no regrets, take risks, put yourself out there!
How will you ever know your true, FULL potential if you don’t put yourself out there and take chances?

10 年Great story to illustrate risk-taking as a strategy for personal /professional growth. But at the end of the day, its not about the risk-its more about what if I fail? "The agony of defeat" is still embedded in the minds of many as the meaning of failure.
