Take a Pause

Was riding around today, looking for new restaurants and seeing which ones have closed up. As such, we were going just below the posted speed limit. We were in the slower lane, so they could go around us.
When we encountered a traffic signal, I noticed however that if we didn’t start immediately when said traffic signal changed to green, if a person was behind us, they would immediately activate the horn on their vehicle.
It got me to thinking about our tendencies to jump into action before we have formulated a plan. We encounter a problem and think we have to jump into action right then. While this may work sometimes, there are times when it doesn’t.
Why don’t we take a pause when a problem first occurs, or when we are contemplating a change in our lives? Look at what other solutions to the problem are, or what life changes are possible knowing what our core beliefs and values are.
And pay attention to the opportunities that we encounter that appear to be divinely placed in our lives. This may be placed there on purpose to give us a hint that something is due for a change in our lives. When that happens, we might REALLY want to take that pause.

1 年Great perspective, thanks for sharing, Charles. Just last week I was thinking along the same lines, when pulled into a second one-off meeting to discuss an ART level Organizational Impediment. At the end of the meeting, when a continuation meeting was discussed, it dawned on me... Why are we allowing one-off meetings to discuss organizational impediments in a silo, when we have established team level, program level and Solution level Inspect & Adapt events to discuss and resolve such issues in group settings to encourage Lean system thinking? Goal for 2024, encourages cultural change to adopt backlog sequencing practices at all levels of the organization.
