"The next step in company growth..."?

"The next step in company growth..."

A brand story very close to my heart - literally! My husband @Andy Pieroux started Walpole Partnership in 2013 with part of his redundancy funding whilst I was still a stay-at-home mum with a toddler and a baby.

He asked me (of course) to create his original brand (top) including website design and brochures...

When naming his new company, Andy wanted it to seem 'established' and like they had been around for years. To feel authoritative and look bigger than 'just him' as he'd always had the vision to scale the business through collaboration. So we decided on the name 'Walpole Partnership'. Walpole is a park close to where we live in West London and a name with historical significance and gravitas, Sir Robert Walpole being generally regarded as the first prime minister of Great Britain.

The compass icon was significant too, positioning Walpole as the guide through the difficult decisions their CPQ (Configuration, Pricing and Quotation) clients have to make. We would use some graphics with the 'W' (west pointer) emphasising both their name and location.

Andy's company brochure was picked up at an entrepreneurial event by the speaker, Andrew Priestley of Dent Global and held up as 'the Gold Standard'. Andy returned home with seven business cards - entrepreneurs who wanted me to work with them (and that's how my company started - but this story isn't about us!)

Eight years later Walpole Partnership has grown to a seven-figure business with employees and clients across the globe. By 2021 the company was working with bigger partners and the team had expanded, so the brand, they felt, no longer represented the company, nor where it was heading.

Walpole didn't need to 'look' established now they actually were - and with new partners like Salesforce on board, they needed a more dynamic, modern image.

Andy of course came back to us, but this was an unusual job in that we ended up completely rebranding our original work. Both he and I still had an affection for the original branding but we understood the need for change too.

Andy handed the job to his team this time, led by Stuart Wymant, to make sure the end result was more representative of everyone's views. It was a great move because, with his team members in charge, the input became much more diverse - and all the better for it.

Debate raged over the compass. Some of the team felt it made Walpole look old-fashioned. ("Nobody uses a compass anymore, they all use Google Maps!"). However, others appreciated the compass symbolism for Walpole being the guide and navigator for their clients.

We made the bold move to get rid of the full compass and took influence more from the simplicity of app icons. Out too went the serif font (originally chosen to give an air of a company that had been around for a while) for a much bolder, cleaner sans-serif one. The colours were also 'dialled up' to give more punch.

The resultant new logo and visual identity still 'nods' to the Walpole compass but in a much more subtle, dynamic and modern way.

Stuart and his team were delighted with the final result.

"Walpole Partnership was formed in 2013 and as we continue to grow/evolve we wanted to complete both a website and brand refresh, we approached Sapna as she completed our original branding and also shared our beliefs that the time was right for a change. Sapna's VISION process starts from the ground up and ensures that in the end your brand reflects the companies mission and values.

As someone who has a strong interest in design myself, I really enjoyed the process and was very impressed by how Sapna encouraged a collaborative approach that didn't just jump straight into the logo design, she really focused her time to understand what we wanted to achieve before we got close to changing colour or font. When working with Sapna her extensive experience shines through and together we were able to create a new brand that I am very proud of, this brand has now been extended on working documents (PPT, Word etc) and on our new website.

I would highly recommend Sapna to any new company looking to stand out or companies like Walpole Partnership who are established and need a refresh to take the next step in company growth."

So happy to be part of this wonderful #walpolepartnership team, lead by Andy Pieroux. I recently joined the team but was already in close contact with Ingmar Hermans and Alexandra Yates before. I immediately felt a very warm welcome from all of the team members. The rebranding was ongoing when I joined Walpole, but it was clear from the beginning that the team would deliver a up-to-date brand which represents both the great work of the past years, as the huge steps we can take in the future. Reading this brand story confirms the warm feeling I have when saying that I’m a part of the Walpole Partnership. With this new branding we are armed for the future! Great job Stuart Wymant Alexandra Yates Sapna Pieroux Andy Pieroux and all others who contributed.
