There is more to it than helping charities raising funds at their golf tournament...
Helping charities raising funds for their cause at golf tournaments is the most important part of what we do. There is however another aspect which not only makes it interesting but also allows us to learn a lot about organizations, their mission and what they do, often not noticed very much by the public.
Let's look at one organization we helped fundraise last Saturday at their tournament.
Their mission in short is the restoration and health of the Everglades in Florida. Go to their website and read how important this is for everyone now and future generations. Currently Florida encounters an enormous problem because of the red tide. The damage not only to the environment with dead fish, crab and turtles are devastating to the economy as well. We learned at the tournament that there was someone who lost $40.000 in revenue from his vacation rentals and the business is at stake. He in turn donated $2000 to the tournament to sponsor the important mission! Another volunteer on the tee with us is in the sanitation and plumbing business. He as well has seen a decline in revenue. If tourists from Overseas and Canada fail to come to Florida over the winter restaurants and other businesses will suffer a heavy blow as that is what they depend on.
On the other hand, we learned that one of the boys volunteering with us started a Junior Captains for Clean Water chapter because he saw how important this is for everyone and wanted to get involved on a younger level. It is nice to see when young kids care about those environmental issues.
We were initially contacted by Captain Bob Brooks who was our organizational contact for the tournament. Bob and his team accomplished something which is very unusual - and we have seen many startup tournaments in the past 6 years - the tournament was sold out weeks prior in its inaugural year! This amazing support shows how important the organization is for everyone in this area! We were operating the Golf Ball PRO Launcher contest at the tournament and the support for Captains for Clean Water was amazing!
Thanks to our sponsor Pfeifer Realty Group 100% of the golfer's donations went to them and everyone was giving. The volunteers we had on the tee were excited and engaged to raise funds for their cause.
If you are a golfer and love a challenge - we recommend playing The Dunes Golf Course on Sanibel Island - surrounded by water and amazing wildlife! Chris Shaul and his team will make it a great round of golf!
It was one more great experience for us and reminded us why we love what we are doing to help charities as well as being able to learn from them about important matters for all of us.
