What do you aspire to be? Is it a Job title or a Responsibility? Whatever it is, you need to be very clear on what you need. This sets the first step into the journey. If you are clear and able to articulate this, people around you would want to listen. Your determination would attract interest and you will have support around.
Why did you choose that? It is very important to understand what led to this decision? It could be because of financial gains, experience, learning or passion. All are equally good reasons. As far as you believe in it, you will succeed.
Both What & Why are interlinked. What can drive Why and vice versa. Similarly, both What & Why are flexible. When 1 changes, most likely it will trigger a change for the other. This is perfectly fine. As we gain exposure, our priorities change, driven by the Why. A career we chose sometime back might not be the best choice today and we can certainly attempt to change. Won't be easy. If we don't attempt, we wouldn't find out what we were missing out.
When you intend to get there? This is the fuel. We need to set up realistic but tight timeline for ourselves. This would determine if our Why is good enough to keep us motivated through the journey or a change in plan is required. There are no failures, only rerouting.
How will you equip yourself to make it happen? This requires being uncomfortable. Come out of your zone to connect and network with people who have already done it or can help you do it. Not necessary we follow their exact path, but an inspiration and learning can be your guiding light. Get a Sponsor who keeps you in the lane. Rest, you manage because, it’s your career. You take the LEAD.

1 年Very much insightful Ishrat, thanks for sharing. The main issue here with majority of employees is that they basically look at 2 things; job title and salary package. And on these 2 basis they derive satisfaction without actually realizing whether the current job is really helping them in their career growth and whether they are upto their goals. It is very risky to take action based on what and why...there will be great fear of loss. But whoever comes over their fears, will surely reap long lasting benefits.
