Take the Lead 12 - Conversations with Love

Welcome to this week's Take the Lead Edition 12 - Conversations with Love or Pattern Interrupts?

We're joined by 4651 people, who all know being curious about conversations that count in business makes them unique to me.?

Please do share this with whomever you feel will be inspired and take action for themselves. By making a start you're already ahead of the pack.

I've been noting some advice on how to 'cold call' and get people's attention.?

The favourite doing the rounds seems to be saying to your potential next new customer: 'Hello John/Jane, Yes, this is a cold call so you can hang up if you like.'?

Don't know about you but I find this cringeworthy.

It's called Pattern Interrupt.

A way of breaking away from the usual monotony of pleasantries to grab attention.

For me, it's like having someone stick their tongue down my throat when we've only just met. What about you??How does it make you feel?

To be fair I don't usually use this type of language but I think it's misleading to expect everyone to be able to adopt these bold tactics right off the bat and strong language helps me make my point.

So I started to note down some of the tactics I have used over the years that work. You can see from this list that they're nothing new. What they do is remind you that you have a choice in how you approach someone.?

Attitude is the ticket to success

Attitude towards the task is one side of the coin of cold calling. The other is what to say or how to approach it.

You want to make a good first impression, right?

Then be warm, open and friendly. Encourage these feelings to be returned by the person you're speaking to.?

Here's a starting point for you to nail your attitude:?

TALK STRAIGHT - be the same with everyone

DEMONSTRATE RESPECT - you've got to earn the right to this in return

CREATE TRANSPARENCY - be clear, don't guess

RIGHT WRONGS - see something that can be put right, own it

SHOW LOYALTY - give everyone the same fair chance you would want shown

DELIVER RESULTS - do what you've said you would

GET BETTER - reflect and learn from every situation

CONFRONT REALITY - we're here to do business

CLARIFY EXPECTATIONS - repeat the bullet points and agree

PRACTICE ACCOUNTABILITY - buddy up and keep your word

LISTEN FIRST - ask about them, then listen

KEEPING COMMITMENTS - do it when you say you will

EXTEND TRUST - remember, warm, open and friendly - be honest

BRING MORE OF YOURSELF - show up and be you

AVOID BULLSHIT - don't fluff it - you'll get found out?

DON'T BE A DICK - period

ASK FOR HELP - if you don't ask, the answer is always no

SHARING - is caring

SET AN EXAMPLE - make people want to be as great as you!

Having the right Attitude is half the battle. The other, I have always said, is Approach. Next week we'll talk about that in more detail.

Our Attitude has a big influence on our life's journey, it can be helpful or sabotaging. How aware are you of your attitude?

This week I'm sharing a conversation with Tommy Breedlove where we got deep and meaningful on self sabotage, self development and self awareness.

The clue is that Self is really at the heart of everything we do.?

What you'll hear:

Pain and humble beginnings: the legendary origin story!

Prioritise your business

Tommy’s advice for entrepreneurs starting out

Tommy’s conversations that counted

Listen to this humbling conversation and tell me what you take away for yourself.

Wendy, not everyone is a Lucy! I think the more we align our way of communicating to who we are, the more authentic we appear to the world - and that improves our communication success.

Love this messages Wendy Harris. ?? (Sharing opinion to the posts) One of the most important lessons we can learn in life is to love ourselves because the way we treat ourselves will have a direct impact on how we treat others. Our self-confidence will come from self-love. Our compassion and empathy will come from our ability to forgive and see the best in us. "The greatest self is the peaceful smile, which always sees the world smiling back." Bryant H. McGill
