Take a Journey into Laurel Highland Legends
NEWS RELEASE
Laurel Highlands Legends, Volume I, is the first coffee table book in a new series brought to you by author, Marci Lynn McGuinness. From historical fiction to interviews with Appalachian characters, photographs long forgotten and stories uncovered, McGuinness has written another collector's item that preserves and honors our places and people, as she did in her six-book Yesteryear series in the 1990's.
UNSOLVED LAUREL HIGHLAND MYSTERIES
McGuinness delves into the unsolved arson of 1964 in the Mystery of the Ohiopyle Hotel and treats us to Vivian & the Board Track Boys, written in the voice of the silent film star who promoted the infamous Uniontown Speedway board track during the coal and coke boom.
Congressman Andrew Stewart, who almost became President of the United States and started the first tourist boom in Ohiopyle in 1872, is shown in a 1909 photograph of the Stone House in Farmington, 37 years after his death. Why does Stewart still roam the halls of his beloved inn today?
LAUREL HIGHLAND LEGEND INTERVIEWS and TRIBUTES
From Ed Cope's three eras of news photography to Haze McGuinness' “Growing up in Ohiopyle” journal excerpts to the Rebirth of Connellsville, McGuinness has written and organized a legendary volume.
The author pays tribute to Youghiogheny River Rats like famed paddle craftsman, Keith Backlund, and shares century-old signatures from the guest books of the Titlow Hotel and Summit Inn, including Barney Oldfield, Louis and Gaston Chevrolet, Ralph DePalma, K. C. Gillette, W. G. Packard, H. P. Bentley, J. H. Hudson and Ed. H. Ford.
AUTHOR MEMOIR
McGuinness, author of 34 books, has also given us a glimpse into her inner life in part one of her memoir, Marci Unblocked. Find out why she walked to Ohiopyle in 1973 and never looked back.
Laurel Highland Legends, Volume I is 8.5” x 11” and sold on Amazon, at the author's web site www.ohiopyle.info, and at local stores, Pechin and Backyard Gardens, retailing for $20. McGuinness will appear throughout the day at Backyard Gardens on Lincoln Street, autographing the new book during the Ohiopyle Buckwheat Supper, Saturday, October 10.
