Take IoT?Easy

Many brands focus on constantly adding new features rather improving the User Experience.

That “Innovate or Die” mindset can be toxic if not applied properly.

Most of the tech designers are driven by a thirst of innovation and the easiest way to bring that to life is to constantly add new technologies however “to be an innovator, you don’t need a crystal ball: you need a wide-angle lens.”.

This is what I call the “Remote Control Dilemna”

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Technically speaking, many things are possible but that does not mean it’s a good idea to display them all as long as most of the end users will struggle to make them work.

Most of the time, end users just want to interact with the key features and nothing else.

I have been through the same problem with our very first product, the Omate TrueSmart, while it was just a proof of concept back in 2013.

I had no idea how to clearly explain all the things you could do and features you could run with that breakthrough standalone telecom smartwatch, I decided to let our early adopters, customers and developers share whatever they like to do with it, we even opened our source code to the community.

Most of these features are still not available in advanced smartwatches as of today simply because the user experience was horrible ??

Think about typing your password on such a tiny screen to check Facebook or Twitter (I did it ??) and watch series on Netflix and videos on YouTube apps straight from your wrist ?? it looked cool but the overall experience was actually bad.

On the bright side, that allowed me to meet many amazing people including some of you here from LinkedIn, Android developers (XDA-developers), software gurus including, Mark Shuttleworth, founder and CEO of Canonical (the company behind the development of the Linux-based Ubuntu operating system), who spent his 2013 Winter holidays testing the watch. Mozilla engineers even ported a beta wearable version of FireFoxOS on top of the Omate TrueSmart. Good memories!

But the most important is that it allowed me to learn how to focus on what really matters in terms of product design: User Experience!

Today, Omate designs Wearable-as-a-Service for people who need protection (Kids / Seniors / Lone Workers).

We have created an entire ecosystem aiming to transform our lives towards a safer world.

On top of that, we put all our energy to improve the overall UX of our products with global leaders in each targeted segments with a goal to offer what our end users really want rather than trying to catch their attention with the newest “hype” features.

Less is More

That philosophy is similar to “the vital few and the trivial many” and more generally the Pareto Principle as the 80/20 Rule.

Our goal is to identify what people really care about our products. Our newest product, the Omate O6L Pro, is a clear representation of that goal.

“Adults are just outdated children.” — Dr. Seuss

Do You Remember… The Future?

Remembering the time when we watched Back to the Future II through our child’s eyes… well, nothing’s happened as described in the 2015 vision of the movie, no flying cars, no hover boards. but I have built that watch ??

Introducing the Omate O6L Pro

The Omate O6L Pro is available now exclusively on www.omate.com/shop from US$239 in the United States and Mexico. (Coupon Code for launch week to enjoy 40% off: OMAHOME40)

5 years ago, we launched our first Kids Smartwatch, the Omate K3, and here is what we’ve learned since then:

Parents only care about 3 features:

  1. Communication: two-way calls and messages.
  2. Location: GPS tracking to locate the child anytime, anywhere.
  3. Security: SOS alert in case of an emergency.

On top of that, the watch and the app must be secure and easy-to-use.

What Parents Do Not Want

I) Parents do not want their kids to spend time on another screen. Therefore, a Kids Smartwatch should not be a source of distractions. There should be no internet access, no games, no music, no social media.

II) Parents do not want their kids to have a smartphone while they are still in primary / elementary schools. Therefore a Kids Smartwatch could be a substitute to a smartphone for the 6 to 12 years old as long as it only offers limited features as stated above and do not become a smartphone on your wrist.

Identify Pain Points

Pain points are specific problems that prospective customers of your business are experiencing. In other words, you can think of pain points as problems, plain and simple.

We quickly realized that one of the pain points about mobile IoT connected wearables was the connectivity.

What sets the Omate O6L Pro apart from other children’s smartwatches are the unlimited free prepaid data services for 3 years and the extra security layer provided by its Virtual SIM private network powered by SIMO.

It means that parents can keep track of and in touch with their kids in real-time, but no data on the network can be intercepted by unscrupulous individuals.

No SIM Card, No Credit Card, No String, No Extra Fee, No Subscription!

The Omate Service is FREE and UNLIMITED for 3 years!!!

Offering the connectivity to the end users allows Omate to focus on its core business of developing innovative, feature-rich smartwatches for consumers everywhere. Omate can give people the always-connected digital experiences they want with to experience with every family member.

The Omate O6L Pro is a low power 4G standalone smartwatch and GPS tracker packaged in a robust IP67 certified body.
